Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Honeywell HWM330 Quick Steam Warm Moisture HumidifierCustomer Review: getting the unit to do what it's supposed to Summary: 3 StarsI spent a lot of time reading everyone's reviews of various Honeywell humidifiers, and sympathize, especially because I too got a 450 that was defective upon opening (I plan to contact my credit card company if Amazon gives me a hard time about the refund).... but I now have a 330 and a new 450 that I have gotten to do pretty much what they are supposed to do- the important thing being that they put out great steam and are fairly quiet, just a bit of gurgling, which I find sort of pleasant. As of now the 330 is 4 months old and the 450 is 2 weeks old.
Here's how we try to keep these questionable units running:
1)We place the humidifiers on a stepstool and check whether it is level.
2)We use distilled water, in spite of the filter thingy. We get it delivered from Poland Spring and store it in the garage, because the minimum order is 48 one-gallon bottles (8 cases). Another advantage of this is that it seems okay if we clean the unit less often than every 7 days.
3)We fill the tank just before bed because the air is extremely dry here, and keep an extra gallon nearby.
4)We leave the unit on high, all the time, and make sure the tank never gets near empty.
5)To unscrew the top, I sit on a chair and place the tank between my feet to get leverage, and use a t-shirt to open it. I also try to dry off the threads before screwing the top back in- this part works much better when the parts have cooled a bit
6)although it is not mentioned in the manual, there is another part that can be rinsed or wiped down with vinegar, namely the tube from which the steam exits. It can be removed from the main housing.
7)We follow the motto "easy does it," so as not to 'startle' this sensitive unit!
Looking forward to the day when some company puts out a reliable easier-to-use unit. We can go to the moon, so you'd think we'd have it by now! In short, I actually like the 330 better than the 450 because there are fewer things that can go wrong...
Customer Review: Best humidifier I ever... Summary: 5 StarsI have a newer model, 3 gallon, HMWM-331. After going through 3 other brands with very poor results this season, this one is a winner! Very quiet (no gurgling); it will not disturb an infant or a light sleeper, as opposed to the Bionaire and others, efficient and easy to clean. So far, no mineral build-up, even though our water is quite hard. It uses disposable mineral absorption pads. The only inconvenience is filling the tank- it doesn't sit flat and you need to support at an angle. but that is really minor, given the quiet efficient operation and attractive design. Low price too. This is the best we've ever had. The phone support is also good. Kaz works for many brands and they are quite responsive, even though many of the brands aren't very good. I definitely recommend this unit to anyone looking for a very quiet warm mist unit for a mid-size room.
Customer Review: Lasted 2 days!! Summary: 1 StarsThe product lasted exactly two days before it ceased to operate. Called the manufacturer's service number and followed their advice and advice on user's manual, but no success. Obviously a common experience judging by others' comments. Should have read the reviews before ordering. Now I have to pack it up and return to Amazon! Amazon should take the item off their site.
Customer Review: A good product, but suffers from a fatal flaw Summary: 1 StarsI bought a new Honeywell Quicksteam (HWM-330) several months ago from a local store, to help keep our bedroom at a comfortable humidity. The humidifier worked well enough, but less than a week after we had been using it, the unit wouldn't turn on again the morning after we used it.
We suspected the problem was that the unit burned out after having used up its water supply during the night. To their credit, Honeywell sent us a brand new unit after we sent the broken one back to them. But once again, the new unit died after running out of water overnight, less than a week after we had received our second unit.
It would be one thing if they had advertised the unit as NOT having an auto shut-off feature. In that case, we never would have purchased it; however, we've had two units die after less than two weeks of CUMULATIVE use, and for the same reason. As such, I strongly recommend AGAINST purchasing this humidifier.
Customer Review: HWM-335 just as bad Summary: 1 StarsI had the same problem everyone else is having, only with the 335 model. Although, I guess I'm lucky - it managed to last three months.
