My husband is an occasional smoker. And, even though it's not a daily habit I just can't stand the smell of cigarette smoke in the house. After reading reviews of many different brands of smokeless ashtrays, and generally being discouraged about finding one that would work well, I bought the Holmes Smoke Grabber. So far, so good! It works! Last night I was sitting next to my husband as he smoked and I couldn't smell the cigarette. You can hear the hum of the fan, but it's better than the sound of me nagging my husband! I bought this smokeless ashtray for my mother that likes her smokes weather you do or not. I do not, so she is using it faithfully whenever I am over. The ashtray really only works if you keep your cigarrete in the ashtray itself, otherwise the smoke still drifts out into the room. If mom keeps her smoke right next to the smokeless ashtray then it will draw the smoke into itself. So all in all out of 10 I would give this ashtray an 8. Worth the money for me since I don't have to get smoked out while visiting my mother.Customer Review: don't waste your money

At least I didn't waste too much money. But this product is lacking. To begin with, it absolutely eats batteries. It requires 2 D batteries, which needed to be replaced after the first 10 days. You have to keep the cigarette directly under the lid for it to absorb the smoke otherwise it just floats past the fan. The lid will not stay in place, which is what activates the fan and there are times the fan has not even worked until I put something heavy on the tray to hold it down. My most recent purchase of these ashtrays has shown them to be a small disappointment. They aren't the quality they were in the past. They still do everything they were intended to do, but they are not as quiet as the previous purchases in the past. I actually sent the recent purchase back and the replacements are the same. I originally bought them because they were supposed to be quieter than others. I don't know if they are, but I know they aren't as quiet as the ones I purchased 3 years ago.Customer Review: Works well but Still a bit noisy

Best to use the AC plug as opposed to batteries, unless you enjoy changing batteries often (batteries are beneath the tray and it gets pretty nasty under there). It does work better than any other smokeless ashtray I've tried, but it's still too noisy for my liking. Could be there isn't really any way to get it quieter as well as the vacuum does suck up the smoke quite well.
