I replaced my crappy smaller knife block that had vertical slots with this one. All my previous knives (steakknives, kitchen shears and honing steel included) fit perfectly and I was able to add three more chefs knives as well. Takes up quite a bit of counter space in my galley kitchen (as much as a toaster) but is better than shoving knives in a drawer or trying to hang them all on a magnetic bar on the wall.Customer Review: holds them all!!!

This block has enough slots that are large - to hold just about all knives you will need. It has a 3 1/2 inch for a cleaver and a couple of 2 inches for a Santoku and a large chef's knife. It has several 1 1/2 and 1 inch slots. It has a place to store your steel and kitchen shears. It has a fairly small footprint considering it holds 19 knives. I gave this knife block as a gift to my son who is collecting individual knives from another brand. He wanted a block where the knives are placed horizontal so as not to rest on the blade. This block fit the bill perfectly, even the steak knives lie horizontally (not found on all knife blocks). Also, there is room for 8 steak knives instead of 6. Exactly what he wanted!Customer Review: good design

I chose this model based on other reviews that stated it easily accommodates a number of knives of various lengths, and it meets that requirement. Although it takes up a fair amount of counter space, I find the easy accessibility of the knives makes up for this. My only complaint is a dark, vertical streak in the light-colored finish at the front of the block.Customer Review: Nicely finished block

The most important factor is that it holds my 3 1/4" cleaver. Looks like the max for a cleaver is about 3 3/8". The 20 slots provide sufficient storage. Nicely finished block of wood. With the discounted price was clearly the best deal around. Was reasonably sure it would be a quality product, with the Henckels name on it. Very pleased with this purchase.
