Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Juice Extractor 67650

Customer Review: Everything I was looking for in a juicer
Summary: 5 Stars

The main features that I was looking for in a juicer were that it be fairly inexpensive (as this is my first juicer), not require a lot of cutting or preparation of the fruits and vegetables, and be quick and easy to clean. Over the past two weeks, I have found the Hamilton Beach 67650H Big Mouth Pro Juice Extractor to meet all those criteria, and I am very satisfied with it so far.

You can spend a lot on a juicer, but at the $64.95 I paid for it, this one was a pretty good deal. I was also not willing to spend a lot of time slicing up my produce before juicing it, so the wide opening is a great time saver. Even for a large apple, I only have to slice it in half before feeding it into the juicer. Once the produce is in there, it's only a matter of seconds before you've got your juice.

As others have mentioned, you may not get as much juice out of softer fruits and vegetables but from what I've read, that's not a fault of the model as much of the type of juicer it is (centrifugal vs. masticulating). One trick I found for juicing leafy greens is to fold them into a tight bunch before inserting them into the chute, so that they're easier to push it down with the pusher and spend more time against the blade. Also, for greens with stems, insert the leafy side in first so that the pusher maintains contact with the vegetable until it has been pushed all the way down.

As for the cleaning, I clean it immediately after use and it probably takes me about 5 minutes total. However, common sense dictates that if you wait too long to clean it, the pulp with dry and become harder to remove. Since I use a grocery bag in the pulp collector, I take it out and throw it away. Then I hand wash the other parts and use the included scrub brush to scrub the pulp out of the strainer. All the parts are machine washable, but since it's just fruit and vegetable pulp, a quick hand washing should be okay for a day to day basis.

It is very easy to take apart and reassemble. I have not had the problem that some other users mentioned with removing the strainer. I just lift the black piece that it is housed in off the motor and then turn it upside down. It comes right out.

So, in summary, if you are looking for a user-friendly introductory juicer, you will likely be very satisfied with this one.

Customer Review: Hamilton Beach 67650 Big Mouth Pro Juice Extractor
Summary: 4 Stars

Having used this juicer almost everyday for the last month since purchase, the only complaint I have is the incredible loudness of the motor! As other reviewers have mentioned, it really does sound like a jet engine!
Having said that, this machine works very quickly to juice whatever veggies I use (nothing fancy, mostly just raw carrots and celery, apples and cucumber). I wash and trim or large chop them, taking only a few seconds of my time. Instead of using the juice receptacle provided, I keep my own 20 oz. drinking glass underneath the spout. Generally speaking, with the 5 carrots, 3 stalks of celery, one apple, and one half English cuke I use, the yield is about 16 oz. Very efficient!
Clean-up is easy, usually just a quick rinse for the plastic pieces; the metal cutting/straining basket gets cleaned under warm running water, using the Scotch Brite side of a double-faced sponge. A gentle rub on both the inside and outside of the strainer does the job. I recommend washing all removable pieces (plunger, top, metal basket and spout/strainer housing) immediately after using so that the shreds do not air-dry on the product (making it much more difficult to clean).
The machine snaps apart and together easily. Definitely recommend using those clear plastic 'baggies' (like the ones that are available for consumer use in grocery stores to transport fruits and veggies from your cart to the cashier to home; they come in rolls, and the bags are separated by perforations) to line the inside of the catch bowl (on the left side of the machine). I have yet to wash that piece, as the baggie very conveniently catches all of the veggie skins! I have been tossing the pulp and the baggie. No muss, no fuss! However, some reviewers said that they incorporate the pulp in recipes--does anyone have a specific recipe or reference to one that I can try? It seems like such a waste to toss the remains. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
Except for the ridiculous noise level created, I am very happy with this juicer. In its defense, because it works so quickly, the machine is on for literally less than one minute, so the roar lasts only for a short time! Definitely worth the $80+ that it costs. (Consumer Reports rated this a "Best Buy").
Lastly, I have to comment on the amazingly fast delivery---ONE day; WOW!

Customer Review: Big Mouth Chrome vs. Breville Compact Juice Fountain
Summary: 5 Stars

I just recently purchased two juicers: the Bigmouth Chrome and the Breville Compact Juice Fountain. As they are both in the same price/performance category, I thought I'd briefly compare the two for those interested in the differences-as I see it. For the record, both of these juicers are my first go at juicing and was recommended to us by our Nutritionist.
First, both are winners and perform flawlessly the task of extracting juice from a wide variety of vegetables and fruits. Both have strong motors that easily do the job at hand. Both are easy to use and clean. Both are well designed and are easily taken apart and put back together.
In all honesty, the Breville Compact Juice Fountain which costs about 40 dollars more than this Bigmouth Chrome does have a few benefits which make it worth the extra cost if price is not an object. The Breville motor seems to be a touch more powerful and a touch quieter. The Breville's juice container comes with a froth reducer (I, personally, don't mind the froth). The Breville doesn't drip juice from the spout while emptying the juicing container (just a minor annoyance). The Breville can chew up whole carrots without causing the machine to slightly "jump." The Breville has a larger juice container and doesn't fill up nearly as fast. This is not really a big deal as the juice can be transferred to a different container. The Bigmouth does have a larger pulp container that seems like a bottemless pit while the Breville's fills up faster...so it's a draw really. The Breville is easier to clean due to its clean design and lack of grooves and indentations (except, oddly, the stainless steel screen which is finer in the Bigmouth and makes a slightly smoother drink).
All in all, both are amazing bargains for the price each cost. Owning both, I don't think that I would regret having only one or the other. I use the Bigmouth and my wife uses the Breville (it is just that much easier to ensemble for use). While, in my opinion, the Breville's slightly higher cost can be justified by the slight benefits it offers, the Bigmouth Chrome is an awesome machine that cranks out delicious juices no matter what I shove down its throat :-)
I love mine!
Hope that helps,
Michael

Customer Review: Makes Good Juice Quickly & Easily
Summary: 5 Stars

I already have a citrus juicer for oranges and lemons which makes good juice fast without a messy cleanup Black & Decker CJ525 CitrusMate Plus Citrus Juicer. But I wanted another juicer which could make carrot, tomato, broccoli, berry, banana, and other fruit and vegetable juices with the same speed and easy cleanup. I looked around a lot at different juicers before making my selection. My original reasons for selecting the Hamilton Beach Big Mouth Pro Juice extractor were its low cost and the fact that it said you could juice whole foods without cutting them up first.
Since I got this juicer I have used it almost every day and, so far, I am very happy with it.
This juicer has a powerful motor to quickly extract juice even from thick broccoli stalks. Within a few seconds, you have juice so you can make it fresh for every meal. Most whole food, except for very large apples, fit directly into the intake spout without having to slice them.
The juice cup which fits under the spout is large enough to make two big servings of juice at one time. The pulp bin, which attaches to the side, is large and easily detaches after use; you can put a plastic bag inside the pulp bin so you just discard the bag and keep the bin clean.
Cleanup is easy. All juicer pieces detach easily and are dishwasher safe. The main working part of the juicer includes a stainless steel micro mesh sieve to strain the juice from the pulp. Hamilton Beach includes a cleaning brush so hand washing is easy too.
The instruction book that comes with the unit includes interesting juice recipes; it's also fun to be creative with mixing different fruits and vegetables together.
Overall I rate this 5 star for its ease, quality, and cost. The only drawback, which does not really affect my rating, is that the instruction book says you can make soy milk using the juicer. When I tried this, my soybeans shot all over the place; what did manage to go through the juicer were mostly lost in the pulp bin. But I didn't buy the juicer to make soy milk (I have a blender for that), so it's not a big deal.

Customer Review: HB Big Mouth Juicer...
Summary: 4 Stars

After searching through all the reviews and prices on about 8 machines, I selected this juicer. I received it very quickly as with all items ordered from AMAZON.com.
The upside:
...it has the largest food channel of any juicer that I have seen and that saves me lots of work coring, slicing and prepping the fruits and veggies for juicing. I love this feature!
...not any harder to clean than any other juicer that I have owned.
...extracts all of the juice very well and leaves a really dry pulp, which I use in muffins and other recipes most of the time for the fiber benefits. (or I feed it to my chickens!)
...is attractive, although large, on the counter top.
...not as noisey as most machines that I have tried...fairly quiet operation.

The downside:
...it does leave some juice underneath the base of the machine and I cannot figure out where this comes from. I have to sit it on a paper towel for this reason. Carrots will stain most anything if left there for any period of time.
...the juice collection container is not as large as I would like. It only holds a cup or two and must be emptied if making alot of juice. Maybe it could come with two sizes???
...when done juicing, one must leave a paper towel under the drip spout..it continues to drip juice for quite some time, even if I leave the juice container there for a few minutes.

All in all, I like this Big Mouth juicer. I think it is a fair price for what you get. I have read the comments and opinions on the more expensive juicers (over $200) and find that most were negative especially when it came to customer service, returns or warranty problems. HB has been around for many years and I feel I could get service fairly easy if I have a problem. We'll see...so far, nothing to complain about.

So, I give this machine 4 stars because of the above mentioned downsides. I would purchase again and refer to a friend.
