I've had this can opener for a little over 5 months and I haven't had any problems with it. I even had it open one of those huge Hominy cans and this electric can opener held on to that huge can like it was holding a regular can and opened it without any trouble. It has like a magnet that holds on to the can and when you push down on the lever it locks onto the can and then just opens it without any trouble...oh and it is not noisy either. On the back it has storage for the cord so that it won't get in the way. I absolutely love this can opener I'm seriously thinking of purchasing another one just in case they are discontinued. I highly recommend it!Customer Review: WOW!

This can opener is amazing. You might be thinking it's just a can opener. Wrong it's more than that. I have always had a problem with can opener's I just can't seem to make them work.
This can opener was easy from the start. No more afraid to take the lids off of the can opener because you are afraid of cutting yourself. Non of that with this can opener. This can opener is also very fancy. I wish that I could put it some where in my kitchen all by it's self. The cord is long enough to plug it in where I have it sitting at.
Con: You have to hold the lever down. That's the only thing that I don't like about this can opener.

I had read the other reviews about the Hamilton Beach Smooth Touch and even watched one of the video reviews before purchasing. I needed a can opener that would accommodate the gamut of can sizes. Due to problems with my hands I have increasingly had to rely on electric appliances in lieu of using good old fashioned manual ones, like a twist can opener. I am so glad I bought this can opener. I had a huge seven pound can of almond paste that needed opening and the Hamilton Beach opened it like it was a can of tuna fish! Unbelievable! No sharp edges, the blade never touches the contents of the can, and it creates a lid. Highly recommended.Customer Review: Bought one for me & a gift:Great if you have arthritis or repetitive stress

I watched the review video left on here, and I was taken by the fact that it doesnt touch food. It doesnt, and the other thing is that you can barely even tell it opened a can! I thought the thing was a dud, but then I looked closer at the can and tested the lid, it was actually opened at the side, without leaving ANY sharp parts at all! This is so great. It is also good for those of us with typing fatigue, if you have arthritis or carpel tunnel syndrom, this is a GREAT alternative. It is an absolutaely NO FUSS can opener. Totally ergonmic, all you do is apply a little pressure to the top, and -no pain- just a smooth, clean, opened can.Customer Review: Works Sometimes

When it works, which is about 80% of the time, this is a very cool machine, uncrimping the top of the can for easy removal. When it doesn't work, it's a real pain, as you now have a partially uncrimped top with a fairly sharp edge and a can that is still not open.
So far, it has failed to open College Inn broth cans (they seem to have some adhesive under the lid edge), it has totally failed on one large #10 size can and it has half-opened a couple of diced tomato cans, leaving me to pry open the lids.
It was cheap enough that I'll keep it, but darn, it seems to me a can opener should do the job all the time.
