Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hamilton Beach 68050 Icy Treats Ice Shaver, WhiteCustomer Review: Works great! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this for Christmas for my husband and kids after we got into the habit this past summer of going out for snow cones each weekend. I thought they would have fun if we could make our own, and I was right! They wanted us to make some right away, and we figured it out quickly. It didn't take long to make enough shaved ice for the 4 of us and then we added different flavors and enjoyed the treat. There was essentially no clean-up since we added the flavor to the shaved ice in the cups afterwards, so we just had to take this apart and set it out to dry. We'll be getting a lot of use out of this! We did find that the ice shaved faster if we used the crushed ice out of our freezer instead of just the regular ice.
Customer Review: Does an excellent job! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this after my grandson was constantly asking me to buy a Coke Icee at Burger King. I thought I'd save money in the long run. And, indeed, it has helped in that regard. The only problem is that I am never sure exactly how much ice to put in it so it isn't over iced.
I also use it for my Iced Mocha which I used to get from McDonald's. Whether or not I make a lot of them, I remember that I CAN make one whenever I am near a McDonald's, so it saves me money with just the thought.
It is very easy to use. With practice you can gauge how much of the substance and the ice to use. The main thing I would change is the noise. But I suppose it is hard to crush ice silently.
Customer Review: Shaves Ice Fast! Use Ice Cubes straight from the freezer Summary: 4 Stars
The Hamilton Beach Ice Shaver is faster and quiter than other models I have used. It holds one standard ice cube tray of cubes in the hopper, turn it on and in about 30 to 40 seconds you have shaved ice.
Being able to use cubes directly from the freezer is a big plus since we make ice at least twice a day.
Frankly I can't tell much difference between the slushy and snow cone setting the snow cone setting seems to produce slightly larger flakes of ice than the slushy setting. My other half prefers the slushy setting he says it takes slighly longer for the slushy bits to melt in the mouth.
Over all very satisfied with the ice shaver.
Customer Review: No Muscles Needed Summary: 5 Stars
My kids received this for Christmas and I was a little worried after reading the reviews that it would suck. However, to my great relief, it works beautifully. We have had lots of slushies now with no major problems. My first attmept did get jammed because I tried to shave too much ice at once. Now I just do a little ice at a time until the bowl is full (this provides 2 big slushes). In this way, you do have to stand by to keep adding ice but it's a whole lot easier than my Snoopy snow cone machine! Also, it is very loud - like any blender would be that is crushing ice, I guess. Just clean and dry afterwards and you shouldn't have a problem with rust.
Customer Review: Best home slushi machine ever Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a huge slush-puppie fan and decided to order this little guy based on the reviews and price. Since receiving it a few days ago, I've been extremely satisfied. It's very simple to use and clean, and produces excellent shaved ice. I'm also quite surprised how fast it makes it. For the quality and price, you will not find better machine!
Also, to make a slushi just like the blue raspberry slush-puppie, mix it with Berry Bonkers Hawaiian Punch (one of the harder flavors to find, but I get mine at Shaws). The very similar taste together with the great shaved ice makes it virtually indistinguishable. As a result, I couldn't be happier.
