Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hamilton Beach 51101B Personal Blender with Travel Lid, BlackCustomer Review: Disturbing second order. Summary: 2 Stars
Saw this for $10.99 with free shipping here at Amazon and had to order a 2nd one. Having an extra jar is worth that alone and if I ever burn out the motor I will have a spare. Great deal - I thought.
I received my second blender today and when I opened the product box, the items were packed haphazardly and the open/close slide thingy on the top was broken. Even more disturbing - and this sounds very strange I know - there appeared to be several drops of dried blood inside the Hamilton Beach box, as if someone cut them self, or had a nose bleed while packaging it. Of course without testing it, it might be that they were eating chips and salsa (is this made in Mexico?) while on the assembly line, but I doubt it. Because of this rather disturbing discovery I have deducted THREE stars. Sorry, but it grossed me out big time!
Customer Review: Amazing little blender! Perfect for on the go! Summary: 5 Stars
I LOVE this blender, I am so happy with my purchase. I use it to make smoothies for my daughter & myself. I was a little worried, reading some of the other reviews, with it being able to blend ice, however, it has a lot of power behind it. I have not experienced any ice chunks, or any difficulty with it not blending the ice, it blends ingredients pefectly. It did give off a burning smell the first time I used it, but I haven't smelled anything since. My favorite part about this product is the blending jar. I love that fact that you can blend your ingredients, then take the jar with you as a to-go cup! It means one less cup I'll have to clean, and it fits perfectly in my car's cup holder! One thing I do want to point out is that the blades do not and CANNOT come off. I would absolutely recommend this blender!
Customer Review: Worked great for two weeks ... Summary: 1 Stars
I was very excited to find an affordable blender online, but was disappointed. This is my first Hamilton Beach product and I had heard great things about some of their other products. I used the blender about 5 times a week to make smoothies (spinach, almond milk, banana, frozen strawberries - nothing harder than that) and it worked wonderfully. I loved the size of the blender and it worked pretty fast. It was also very easy to clean. This week it started to smoke and get very hot. I would stop blending and let it cool down (which tripled the time it took to make a smoothie), but even that didn't help. the motor burned out today, two weeks after I purchased the blender. I did find the Hamilton Beach customer service number online for anyone else who is having the same blender problem: 1-800-851-8900.
Customer Review: Working well for my diet. I love it. Summary: 5 Stars
This blender is fantastic. Its compact, sleek looking, affordable. and takes up very little space. Sometimes I get tired of eating fruit and would rather just drink it. So I just throw a piece in (like a banana or a cut up apple) with some ice cubes, a strawberry, sugar free almond milk, some protein powder and water and it comes out delicious.
The trick for me is not to put too much fruit so I dont overeat or spike my blood sugar. I just put a single peice for a snack, with very little extras i.e., protein power, sugar free almond milk, a single strawberry.
A great way to sneak in some veggies like spinach if you dont like to eat it, just throw it in with the fruit.
I hate those big clunky blenders that take up too much space and are hard to clean. This is perfect.
Customer Review: 3 Week Life Summary: 1 Stars
Mine lasted for three weeks before it burnt out. I used it twice daily during that time, with mini ice pellets and pre-sliced frozen fruit---which it seemed to handle fine (no burning smell or other signs of overuse). I thought the blender would last me at least a year or so (like my last unit, which I purchased several years ago); but no, dead in less than three weeks. Maybe the makers cheapened the product so people would have to buy replacements more often; or to over-stress a single-minded bottom line. So something that seemed like a good price upfront ends up becoming really pricey and frustrating; considering how often a replacement would have to be purchased--at this rate about once a month. It would be like buying a new blender every year for $240 a piece!! Insane.
