Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hamilton Beach 51101B Personal Blender with Travel Lid, Black

Customer Review: The Greatest Little Blender!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been making Herbal Life shakes in my Montel Williams blender. While the blender does an adequate job....it is large and a nuisance to wash all the parts. I was headed to Hawaii for a vacation but wanted to stay on my shakes so I decided to buy a personal blender at the WalMart when I got there. I had no idea what kind they would have. The bullet was my first choice but when I saw how expensive and heavy it was....I didn't want to invest in it or put the heavy thing in my suitcase. The Hamilton Beach Personal Blender was cheap and very light. I really didn't expect a whole lot from it but I figured it would be better than nothing. To my surprise....it was easy to use, made wonderful shakes and very easy to clean. I loved it so much that I brought it home with me and I'm on Amazon ordering another one for a gift. My Montel Williams expensive blender hasn't been off the shelf since I got my little personal Hamilton Beach. You cannot go wrong with this bargain!!!

Customer Review: 2 yrs Strong, No issues!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've had this lil'gadget for over 2 years, and I average about 3-4 uses per week. So far so good. 5 stars. I will say that I've never tried to use Ice, so I can't comment on that. I only use this for fruit smoothies, and I always use frozen fruit. Please note that I always let my fruit thaw in the blender for 5-10 min prior to blending. (yes is still frozen fruit)

I let my fruit thaw to prolong the life of my blender. But it also makes for a better smoothie and requires less liquid (milk, juice, water, etc..)

I gave my mom one for her birthday and she loves it.

My lid has a small crack, but nothing to complain about, and I don't use the cup for travel. Also, my tip is to rinse/wash out the cup as soon as you're done for simply cleaning.

I paid 17.99 for mine, and 19.99 for my Mom's. 11.99 is a steal, and I will purchase one just in case mine does die in the near future, or at least I know I have a gift for someone.

Customer Review: The design saves it
Summary: 4 Stars

Possibly the nicest thing about this blender was the careful thought that clearly went into the design. The cup itself is easy to drink from directly and fits in your car's drink holder, and you can coil the plug around the base of the blender for easy, non-messy storage. While seemingly simple, these design quirks make the blender a pleasure to use. The small size also makes clean-up a breeze.

Unfortunately, I can't speak so positively of the actual blending power of the unit--I'm really not impressed with how much time it takes to blend frozen fruit, protein powder, ice cubes, etc. It does get the job done, however, and if you use relatively soft ingredients (fresh fruit, yogurt), you can make perfectly good smoothies. I'm not sure I would use the blender for anything more intensive than that on a regular basis.

One more caveat: the lid seems a little flimsy, but as of a month and a half of use, it's still doing its job just fine.

Customer Review: Excellent product for its intended purpose
Summary: 4 Stars

Its amazing to me that people buy this $13 plastic blender expecting it to do the same thing a $50 blender would do. It weighs about 1/4 as much as standard blender ande is 1/4 the size. I fail to see how anyone would think it would work for crushing ice or frozen fruit. It might work fine for blending slightly thawed fruit, but looks, feels, and operates like a cheap blender should.
I use it for blending protein powder and OJ and it works perfectly. It is very easy to clean up and takes up very little space on the counter.
The reviews by people who fill it with ice and then hold the button down for 20 or 30 seconds AFTER IT STARTS SMELLING LIKE ITS BURNING are hillarious.
I'm giving it a 4 star rating only because the product description doesn't make it clear that it doesn't crush ice well. Also its too small for a regular size smoothie and apparently most people dont know how big 16 ounces is.

Customer Review: Great Personal Blender
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this blender because I'm eating smoothies every morning for a snack. I tried bringing them to work in my lunchbox, but have issues with finding a container that doesn't leak; in addition, the fiber in the smoothies tends to make them congeal when they sit. Plus, smoothies ALWAYS taste better fresh.

This blender fits in my desk, cleans easily (nothing to take apart), and handles most anything I put in there. It did NOT blend almonds into a smoothie. They stuck on the blades which was a pain because it can't be taken apart. Live and learn - will bring milled flax if I want to add that type of thing in the future. Could also buy sliced almonds and it would probably handle those.

The drink opening in the lid is a little small for most smoothie products; I make veggie smoothies and it's hard to get some of the pieces of veggie out. So blend WELL.

Good product overall.
