Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hamilton Beach 40911 2-Quart Electric Iced Tea MakerCustomer Review: Good Design, Easy To Use, Makes Great Iced Tea! Summary: 5 Stars
The title pretty much says it all, this is the best iced tea maker currently available. I have made my own and tried every other maker out there and none can hold a candle to this one. Others leak, are hard to use, hard to clean or just generally poorly designed. Not this one!
Only 3 steps to make the iced tea (fill with water, fill with ice and place your tea bags or loose tea in) and 5 minutes later you are good to go. A couple shakes to dry it out, wrap the cord back up and you are done.
Stay away from the others, you are just wasting your money.
FYI, despite the description I have found this item (pitcher, insert & filter screen) are dishwasher safe. I put the pitcher on the bottom rack, insert on the top rack and filter screen in with my cutlery and I've never had any issues. Be advised though, the filter screen seems to catch a little residue from the dishwasher soap so rinse that off by hand before you make your tea or it will turn out kinda cloudy.
Customer Review: We like it so far. Summary: 5 Stars
We have gone through several different styles of Mr.Coffee iced tea makers over the years and have had to retire them all because of cracked pitchers. Usually the spout starts to leak and leaves a mess on the counter, but sometimes it's the seam below that leaks. The repeated flow of hot tea on the plastic takes it's toll eventually. The cost of replacement pitchers was often as much as getting a new unit. Now that I see the Hamilton Beach design, I expect the pitcher is going to last much longer. The heated water flows through a hole in the top into the basket with the tea and filters into the center of the ice in the pitcher. It doesn't touch the spout until it's iced tea going into your glass. The tea tastes better and the cleanup is easier than the other brand. The design saves space on the counter. We like the HB Brewstation coffee maker so much that, when it came time for a new iced tea maker, I was inclined to give this one a try. We really like it so far.
Customer Review: Brand new, right out of the box, doesn't work Summary: 1 Stars
I was excited to get this iced tea maker--we really drink a lot of iced tea. I received it as a gift about a week ago, and today, I got it out to use it for the first time. I filled it with water and ice, placed my tea bags in the basket, put it all together and plugged it in. I pressed the "on" button, it lit up, and then I sat down with a magazine. I could hear it starting to brew, but after about a minute, it just stopped. I checked, and the light was off. I tried to turn it back on, but nothing happened when I pressed the button. I tried moving to a different outlet, plugging it in, and turning it on, and again, nothing. It won't brew tea and the light doesn't even turn on. I'm very upset about the poor quality of this item, especially since I wanted this particular tea maker instead of the Mr. Coffee one in part because of the reviews I read here. I've called Hamilton Beach but have been unable to find someone who can help. Guess I'm just stuck with it.
Customer Review: wonderful with only a few drawbacks Summary: 4 Stars
We bought this a few months ago and use it almost daily. We love it. It is so easy to use. I only gave four stars because there are a few things that I feel could make it perfect.
Although we leave it out because we use it so much, it would be hard to store if we aren't using it. They say that the pitcher goes over the tower for easy storage. This is true BUT you still have the lid, filter & inside compartment to find a place to keep so it is no longer all together. So when not in use we leave it set up.
Also, the end of the pitcher is open so you need to be careful when moving it (from counter to fridge etc.) so you don't spill. We solved this problem by pouring tea into a different container in the fridge that holds over a gallon so we can make more tea and (almost) never run out!
Other than never being able to get all the tea off the parts (tea really stains!) we have been really happy with the easy use of this machine.
Customer Review: Don't know what you're missing Summary: 5 Stars
I've had the Mr Coffee model for a couple years and have been completely satisfied/content with it. I left it at my parents over a holiday intentionally.
I moved from the Mr Coffee to the Hamilton Beach. Having that long term experience with the Mr Coffee brand made me realize very quickly how much more *thought* was put into the design of this device. Everything positive I see here I concur with. Just from reading, I was apprehensive about having the tea bag part in the lid of the pitcher. It really is a great benefit, and is still easy to empty/remove after brewing.
The plastics seem a bit higher quality, and the extendable pitcher holder makes you confident that the pitcher won't slip away from the unit while brewing.
From a taste perspective, I don't notice much of a difference. The only downfall for some may be that this is a 2 quart instead of a 3 quart pitcher. Good for small batches, not as good for larger ones.
