Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hamilton Beach 33967 Set 'n Forget 6-Quart Programmable Slow Cooker

Customer Review: Rate the Product! Not the Amazon Seller? Excellent $50 Slow Cooker!
Summary: 5 Stars

This product should be average rating 5 stars and I am rating it that.
All of the low 1 and 2 star ratings are negative due to the Amazon Marketplace reseller who has the product way over-priced! However; if you have been shopping price and reading reviews, you know already that this Hamilton Beach sells for around $40 - 50; Non-Programable slow cookers for $20 - $30 are also out there that work fine; and All-Clad has an excellent one for $180. But this site is to RATE THE PRODUCT!! Not the PRICE!

The product is the Hamilton Beach 6-quart Programmable Slow Cooker.
And the product is a a very good one and excellent value.

It does have a few flaws....
You have to program it correctly....or you will come home to a cold disappointment. So read the instructions and pay attention or use it more often. You do have to be careful when removing the crock from the unit...handles a tad longer would have made it perfect.

I probably would have rated it 4 stars because of these minor flaws....but it cooks so well and I want to off set some of these ridiculous low ratings!

If you want a programable slow cooker, do not want to spend a small fortune, this is a good one to get.

Customer Review: Great, Automated CrockPot
Summary: 5 Stars

I received this crockpot as a gift and have used it about 4-5 times over the last year of owning it. It has impressed me with how simple it is to use and it does its job as a crockpot. Just cooked a nice roast a few days ago using the time cook feature and it turned out lovely. The lockdown lid keeps the juices in and makes it semi-travel friendly. I doubt it would not spill if it was tilted to its side (though I have never tried), but if it sloshes a bit, you should be fine. I have yet to try the probe cooking for doneness, but I know it works to read the temperature.

Top 3 Pros/Cons:

Pros:
- Set and forget. Turn it on and it cooks for time given then turns to warm until you are ready to serve.
- Easy clean-up. Non-stick inner pot is easy to clean.
- Digital dial and temp probe make for easy use.

Cons:
- I have not figured out a way to start a roast on high setting for a time and then have it change to low for a longer time (without having my wife physically change and set it)
- I am scared of breaking the inner pot when I wash it. It gets really slippery when soapy.
- I only use it ever now and then. I am sure I could find more occasions to use it, but alas - I don't.

Customer Review: AWESOME!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I received this slow cooker for Christmas from my husband and I absolutely love it! It makes cooking amazing meals so easy! There are days in the week where I simply don't have time to make dinner between coming home from work and leaving again for some activity. With this slow cooker, I can now prepare everything the night before and then just turn it on in the morning.

This slow cooker in particular is awesome because:
-Programmable: using the temperature probe, the slow cooker will change to warm once your roast is cooked, even if your'e not there.
-Lid latches on: I think this is one of the coolest things. The lid has a rubber-type gasket on the bottom of it so when you latch the lid on, it forms a very tight seal. This means that more moisture is retained in your slow cooker and your food is that much more moist (and awesome). I haven't done it yet but I'm sure that I could pack a full pot into my car and not worry about it spilling.
-Very sturdy: I don't think this will break on me any time soon. With the additional lid latches I was a little concerned but it seems very well made.
-Cooks evenly: I haven't had anything even come close to burning yet.

Summary=AWESOME

Customer Review: exactly what I was looking for!
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a slow cooker to make stews, chickens, etc. My husband likes to cook meats by temperature, so I knew we'd use the probe. I love that it can be set to hit a temperature and then convert to warm. The best feature of all, though, has got to be the great setup for being portable - a great seal, and the clips that keep it shut. We have assembled meal ingredients in the slow cooker, then brought it over to my parents' house, and then plugged it in to cook for a few hours. This will NOT be collecting dust in the back of a cabinet - and I like that the spoon fits into the slotted handle so everything we need is all in one place.

The only possible feature that this slow cooker does not have but we could possibly use is the ability to brown meat in the insert... but given that the slow cooker that offers that feature is much more expensive (and if I remember correctly) doesn't have the probe... this is a MUCH better slow cooker for us. Perfect size, perfect feature set, and looks really handsome. I am SO glad we purchased this slow cooker!

We have a gas stove, and I am so much happier leaving a tomato sauce cooking in this slow cooker rather than over open flame unattended.

Customer Review: Near perfect slow cooker, highly recommended!
Summary: 5 Stars

This crock pot lives up to all the other rave reviews. A lot of thought has gone into the design and it's very well made.

Highlights:

1. Has a programmable mode that you can set a specific amount of cooking time on either high or low.
2. The pot and lid are dishwasher safe
3. Has a "temperature probe" that you stick into the meat and the crock pot will cook for along as it takes to get to a temperature that you pre-program.
4. Has a "locking" feature that clamps the lid down to the unit making it easy to take the unit with you if you are going to a neighbors for dinner and want to avoid chances of the lid falling off. (This isn't useful for me, but I can see it being useful for others)

Lowlights:

1. The lid's rubber seal isn't removable, so cleaning is more difficult
2. Even though there is a programmable mode, there isn't a way to have a combination of High and Low settings. Some recipes call for a certain amount of time on High, followed by another longer period of time on low heat. With this unit, you can only do 1 temperature or the other.

Despite these 2 limitations, this crock pot is a steal at $50!
