Customer Review: Works great but hotter than average

Since I bought this last week, I have made 2 batches of macaroni and cheese (the first one, cooked the entire time on low heat, burned 2 hours before the recipes said it should be done, because I followed the recipe instructions not to remove the lid for anything and not to stir it. The second one was good when I stirred and added more milk when it dried out towards the end, but still was done in half the time the recipe called for, even on low heat, and because I stepped out for an hour when I should have been checking it, ended up overdone), coq au vin (done 2 hours before the recipe called for, but yummy, the chicken just fell apart with a fork!!) and beef stew (also done around 2 hours before the recipes called for) which I haven't tried yet, but smelled great while cooking.
So my freezer is now stocked with great home-made frozen meals to take to work with me.
Now that I KNOW it's hotter than average (it also ended up being bigger than I thought, but I'm sure the largest crock will come in handy for pot luck some time), and that I SHOULD stir things while cooking, and add more liquids as needed I will adjust my recipes. I can't wait to make some chicken noodle soup and my famous chili...I might actually use real dried beans instead of canned for the latter, because with canned, as hot as this cooker is, the beans will be done in 2 hours, and it needs time to simmer.
I do think they should include a stopper for the hole in the lid, which is intended to let the steam out, so that for recipes of things that keeping the steam/liquid in might decrease drying out, you could use it, would be a good idea, but I suspect a rolled up paper towel will work when needed...or maybe a Q-tip.
All in all, this "Slow cooker" isn't so slow...that's convenient if I don't want to cook all day/night, but not if I do. Mind you, I have not had occasion to try the "Warm" setting yet. Will update when I do.
