Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Hamilton Beach 25450 Gourmet Panini PressCustomer Review: Nicely priced, multi-use grill Summary: 4 Stars
Excellent value because it's not just a panini press -- you can also use it as a contact grill for vegetables, burgers, etc. You do this by using a set screw to lock the upper plate at the height you want. Bingo: buy one appliance rather than two.
The upper plate has about 3" to 4" of travel, so you can press fairly thick sandwiches. The size is nicely compact, with the overall dimensions not much bigger than the heating plates.
The plates have very fine ribbing, so you can't use this grill to fry eggs or pancakes. If you want those options, consider the Breville SG620XL panini press/grill (which has flat plates that lock into 6 positions), or the smaller Hamilton Beach 25219 Contact Grill.
Customer Review: No frills but makes great paninis Summary: 4 Stars
I got this for a Christmas present, and my husband asked if we should return it. I read reviews about how good they are so I thought I would try it. I went to buy bread (thicker is better), cheese and other foods to compliment the left overs in the fridge. I made my first panini and it was amazing. The plates are non-stick, but I wish they were removeable. The power cord is super short and I wish there was an on/off switch. If it is plugged in, it is on. It takes 6 minutes to warm up and then about a minute or 2 to cook the panini. The bread gets all crunchy without needing butter (and I love crunchy bread). I made paninis for my husband and I 3 hours ago, and I am planning on having paninis for dinner too!
Customer Review: Outside bread burns before insides are warmed Summary: 1 Stars
I searched all stores in my area for a decent panini maker like the one I had when living in Europe. As this was the only one I could find under $100, I purchased it. One con is that there is no temperature gauge allowing lower temperature settings. When I made my first panini, I noticed that the outside of the bread was very cooked, while the inside of the french bread sandwich(ham and cheese) was still cold. The second sandwich was even more burnt on the outside before the insides began to melt. I packed it back up and returned it to the store I bought it from.
Bottom line: Do not waste your money.
Customer Review: Great Panini Press/Grill Summary: 5 Stars
Got this item a few weeks ago. Easy to use, easy to clean. You don't need any special recipe books - any meat, chesse or fridge leftovers will do. You may want to heat up the meat and cheese for 15 seconds or so in the m-wave if you have thick bread or are using alot of "stuffings". The ready light on ours is a little hard to see but if you look closely you can tell when it it heated up and ready to go. I found that using a cheap paint brush (which is what I use for slapping sauces on grilled foods) works great for getting off the left over crumbs when the unit is cooled. ENJOY!!
Customer Review: Cheap Junk Summary: 1 Stars
Although I purchase many items on Amazon.com, this item is one that I have purchased at a local brick and mortar store twice in the past six months. Both times the machine has only worked for a couple of months before it completely stops working.
The price is great, but if I were to continue to repurchase it would cost me several hundred dollars per year. Buyer beware, the price is nice, but the quality lacks.
I have decided to by a panini pan for stove-top use. I am tired of kitchen gadgets such as this one that just don't last.
