Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Haier HLP21N 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub

Customer Review: great little washer
Summary: 4 Stars

I purchased this washer in June 2007. I loved it. Saved me so much time and money by not having to go to the laundry mat. I have had some over flows with this unit thought. The first few were my fault, things like forgetting the draining hose or the draining hose falling out of the sink. The last overflow was due to a malfunction in the machine. For whatever reason the machine has stopped sensing when to stop filling the machine when it is on the large setting with water. There is only a one year warranty on the machine and it costs almost as much as a new unit to get it fixed. So I figuired out that I could still do laundry in the medium setting. Well now the water inlet hose went. I tried to get it fixed at lowes and they gave me something that was not at all compatable with the washer and I leaked water all over the floor. I called haier and they tell me they no longer make the replacement parts. I have searched far and wide for this part and every place I order it from is on back order. If someone knows were I can get replacement parts please let me know. I really miss this washer. For now I am stuck going to the laundry mat while this machine sits there waiting for its replacement part. =( It really is a good little machine. Even though I only got two years out of it, it definately paid for its self.

Customer Review: Good washer with terrible customer support!
Summary: 4 Stars

We bought this washer a couple of weeks ago and as soon we turned it on, the washer started making a screeching noise in the wash cycle. I called Customer Support immediately, but they assumed it was a defective piece without even trying to find out more details.
There is absolutely no onsite support or phone support to help you troubleshoot. We had to cut the power chord, remove the original sticker from the machine and mail it back along with the sales receipt. Shiiping is not covered under warranty, so we had to pay for shipping again. Haier shipped another unit after 3 weeks. We received a new unit and when we switched it on, it started making the same exact noise. This time we didn't want to call Customer support as they were least helpful.

We tried a couple of things..
First, we checked on the capacity, this machine takes very few clothes. We started with a small load of our baby clothes and the washer started working.
Secondly, the bottom panel needs to be fixed outwards. When the washer is loaded with water, it sinks a bit and it hits the bottom panel when fixed inwards.
If you experience similar difficulties, Please take these two precautions before you go through the hassle of sending it back and getting a new washer shipped again.

Customer Review: okay
Summary: 3 Stars

I have had this machine for about 1 year now.
Pros:
1. It is nice to have a washing machine when there is no hookup. Our apartment doesn't have hookups for both a dishwasher AND a washing machine, so this washing machine goes in our bathroom and works well there.
2. You don't have to use the laundrymat.
3. It wrings out clothes very well. They are almost dry when they come out!
4. It finishes a cycle fairly quickly.
5. It is fairly quiet.

Cons:
1. This machine has to be babysat. It tends to over balance VERY easily even with 1 or 2 items. It will fill up and spin continously over and over to help dislodge the clothes until either you manually fix the clothes or it shuts off and beeps. A waste of water and fabric softener.
2. Clothes get stretched out. If you don't have a dryer, your clothes will eventually be too big for you!!!
3. The normal cycle has a short cycle for washing clothes but will rinse them out too many times. I use the heavy cycle and that seems to clean clothes better.
4. You need HE detergent or use a fabric softener to control the amount of suds generated.
5. Sometimes the machine will continously drain and not fill up. You have to make sure the drain pipe is not below the fill line.

Customer Review: perfect for small apt

Washer was delivered almost a month ago from [...] No problems with shipping. Hookup was fast and simple, adapter included for kitchen sink. It's quiet and efficient. Washes a bigger load and extracts water better than my daughter's much pricier Kenmore stackable w/d. Display shows each cycle as it works. Full 1 year warranty and tub is covered for 7 years. Quieter than my portable countertop dishwasher. If you need a clothes washer and this type of dishwasher, it's working out great buying Haier for both as they take the same sink adapter. Looking forward to a lot more free time and less drudgery! Manual for the product does not provide a lot of detail. For instance, it never instructs you when to turn on or off the water at the sink. It doesn't tell you that there is no heater in the unit and you need to adjust that for each cycle. If you don't like figuring out things for yourself, you might want to have a friend or family member who is mechanically inclined run thru the installation and the first load or 2 with you. So far it is meeting or exceeding every need as expected, turning out clean clothes in a reasonable amount of time that do not take long to dry. At one month into this, I give it 5 stars because it does everything I wanted from purchasing this type of product.

Customer Review: So far So Good!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had my Haier HLP21E for about a week now...I got it online for about $240 (including shipping). The installation was a little bit tricky due to the akward diagrams on the manual. Luckily they have a 24 hour technical support 800 #. The first time I ran the machine it leaked a tiny bit...but that stopped by itself the next day. I have used the machine for about 6 days in a row and it seems to work perfectly now. There are a few quirks with the machine. The water temperature is controlled by the hot/cold handles on the sink. The washer needs to be fairly close to the faucet and sink because the hoses are not that long. I also have to use the handle of a heavy beer mug in order to weigh down the drain hose in the sink. Unless you have a dryer, the clothes need to be hung up to dry (I dry them on my shower curtain rod and most stuff dries overnight). The good part about the washer is that my clothes come out clean and smelling great. I no longer have to haul all my laundry downstairs to the laundromat across the street. I'm also saving 3 bucks a load, which is what I used to pay at the laundromat. So far I really like this little machine! I think it may end up being the best purchase I've made in a long time.
