Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Haier HLP21E 6.6-Pound Pulsator Wash with Stainless Steel Tub

Customer Review: So far So Good!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had my Haier HLP21E for about a week now...I got it online for about $240 (including shipping). The installation was a little bit tricky due to the akward diagrams on the manual. Luckily they have a 24 hour technical support 800 #. The first time I ran the machine it leaked a tiny bit...but that stopped by itself the next day. I have used the machine for about 6 days in a row and it seems to work perfectly now. There are a few quirks with the machine. The water temperature is controlled by the hot/cold handles on the sink. The washer needs to be fairly close to the faucet and sink because the hoses are not that long. I also have to use the handle of a heavy beer mug in order to weigh down the drain hose in the sink. Unless you have a dryer, the clothes need to be hung up to dry (I dry them on my shower curtain rod and most stuff dries overnight). The good part about the washer is that my clothes come out clean and smelling great. I no longer have to haul all my laundry downstairs to the laundromat across the street. I'm also saving 3 bucks a load, which is what I used to pay at the laundromat. So far I really like this little machine! I think it may end up being the best purchase I've made in a long time.

It does the job. Mostly.

It's convenient in terms of size and connections, but if you're like me and used to IKEA-like exactness of everything matching up perfectly and fitting snugly, you will be disappointed. The hose leaks at each end, and the bottom plate barely fits the bottom.

I was only able to fully complete the wash cycle on the first load. I'm not sure what it is, but the washer keeps re-rinsing without ever finishing. I'm gonna try again with a lighter load.

On the other hand, I lived with a friend who has the same one (which is why I bought it) and it works fine. Before purchasing, make sure that you have an even, hard (concrete) surface on which to position it while washing. This is not a good unit for older houses with less than ideal plumbing or small sinks.

It also depends on where you live. In NYC it's great if you're in a small space and don't feel like carrying a bag of laundry around the streets. However, in a place you can move around by car that has laundromats nearby, this washer isn't worth the trouble. Plus, laundromats have driers, and you'll be done with your clothes a lot quicker.

All in all, it's cheap product and priced to be so.

Customer Review: Just what I needed!

After reading many reviews of the various portable machines, I decided on this one, as the bulk of the reviews were positive. I've been using it non-stop since it arrived and am astounded at how well it cleans. I'm also overjoyed to be free of schlepping laundry to the basement in my building, especially since that involves going outside in a Chicago winter and down two flights of sometimes icy stairs.

The reviews here have been most helpful in terms of setup and use, since the manual is fairly opaque.

My two cents are: make sure it's reasonably level and make sure the drain hose is secured before running the machine. I had some minor spills in the beginning, and had a situation where the drain hose was too close to the intake hose when the machine was draining and so the gray water dripped down the intake hose and onto the floor. SO... stay close the first few times you use the machine until you know that you can do it without creating a mess. And keep a towel handy.

Lastly, I have been using High Efficiency (HE) detergent, as recommended by a few reviews, and have had no problem. Just remember to be sparing with the detergent and not to overload the machine and you should be fine.

Customer Review: Great little machine

After reading many reveiews on this product I decided to go ahead and purchase it. I hate the public laundry so I thought this would be a little bit better even if I had some of the problems other people had mentioned. I had the same problems with the screws that every one else did. The screws dont match up to the holes to screw on the bottom panel. You have to kind of force them in where they dont belong and then screw them on. I also have to weigh down the water out house into the sink or it will flip out of the sink from the water pressure and end up all over the floor. I thought it would be sufficent enough to just place it in the sink, however I learned my lesson after the first load! You can fit quite a bit in it despite the small size, however I would not try to overload the washer as the water level will get too high and overflow. I am able to wash with the water level on high as long as the washer is not too stuffed up. Overall if you can iron out the little kinks with the washer, it is much better than public laundry and will save you a lot of money over the long run. As opposed to the rolling thing for the bottom I got those furniture sliders and they work GREAT to move it from one side of the kitchen to the next.

Customer Review: EXCELLENT FOR THE PRICE!!!

I've had my washer for almost a year now and it's been working great. I've had no problems with it at all.

I rent an apt and my landlords have no idea that I have this washer ( I bought it while they were away on vacation). I live upstairs and they live downstairs.

I don't want to ask them for fear they'll say no.

It makes a litle humming noise. That's it!! You can't even hear it in the next room. It's really a quiet little machine.

When I'm done using it, I slip the box that it came in, over the machine and then I place a long black cloth over it with a small doiley on top of it and then I place pictures on there so it looks like a table. (Gotta do that when the landlords need to do something in my apt- which is not very often thank goodness.)

I love this machine. It washes everythng so clean.

I can't tell you how much money I saved by not going to the laundromat. Athough I still have to go to wash my quilts but that doesn't cost all that much.

I never had any water spills... I always keep my eye on the machine. Last thing I need is for my landlords to find out. Oh dear.....

It's an EXCELLENT machine to have. :):)
