Here is the story:
My grandmother gave her big oval enamel roaster that looked just like this one to my mother about 30 years ago (and she had it for a long time before that). That thing was a tank that lasted forever and worked great, until my brother-in-law dropped it a 'few' times in the driveway and the two pieces no longer fit together and the coating was chipping off.
Since it was time to get a new roaster, the only change I wanted to make was to jump up to rectangular so that more space was available inside. This one holds a 22 lb turkey on a rack without any problems, and it does a beautiful job on the bird.
I really wanted to be able to give 5 stars, but I couldn't. When I picked up the roaster with the bird in it, the handles bent/flexed slightly under the load, and the enamel popped off of the inside of the roaster behind the weld locations for the handles. There are now 4 dime sized locations where you can see down to the steel, but at least they will be well above the water line. I think the handles have stabilized at their new locations, so it should last for years (I hope!). Structurally I can see how the oval style roaster would be less susceptible to flexing than the rectangular roaster. If I have to do it again, I will probably go oval and hope that my rack will still fit - but I would stick with this company.
