My Japanese mother said American/European knives were "too big, too heavy and not sharp enough" but until I purchased these knives, I didn't really believe her. When my hand-me-down Japanese knives wore out I replaced them with Henckels, Chicago Cutlery and even Cutco knives - but was never completely satisfied with them. For X-mas I treated myself to this set and can say, without a doubt, that mom was right (again). These knives are incredibly sharp, light, balanced and look great, too. I chose this set because as a vegetarian, I chop alot of fruits and veggies. They have become completely indispensible and are worth every cent.

Global 3 Piece Essential Knife Set. Set comprises of 8" chef's knife, 5.5" utility knife and 3" paring knife (G2, GS5 and GSF15). Loved by professional chefs around the world, Global knives are an excellent choice for the serious home cook. The thin and razor sharp Global blade allows the cook to cleanly slice through foods, preserving the integrity of the ingredient and maximizing its flavor. The majority of Global knives are ground to a straight point rather than the western style of beveling the edge.
