I got this set when I fist moved out of my parent's house and started living on my own (and cooking on my own). I'm not going to pretend to know much about knives but when I was buying these, I had 3 conditions that needed to be met. The knives I got had to be: 1. Sharp and they had to stay sharp with extensive use, 2. Inexpensive, 3. Attractive. I spent weeks researching the best value for my dollar and it came down to this set. After over a year of use, I can tell you that I love these. Are there better knives out there? Of course. But I don't have over $1000 to spend on a knife block. They are very sharp and easy to use and I feel okay, esthetically, setting the steak knives out on the table when company comes over. Do they rust? As mentioned by previous reviewers, I'd be offended if they didn't. They specifically say hand wash only for that reason. Me being the lazy bum I am, I stick them in the dishwasher but take them out as soon as the wash cycle is done and towel dry them. This prevents rusting for the most part. The little specs here and there can always be rubbed or polished out. My only real complaint is the block itself. After about 3 months of everyday use, the black material started to peel off and the cork-board underneath started peeking through. It's mostly around the slits where the knives sit, and I understand why it would do that but, it's still rather annoying. Overall, I love these knives, they serve me extremely well and, for the time being, I wouldn't trade them in for any other ones.
