Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Ginsu 14-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Block Set, with Black Block

Customer Review: You get what you pay for...
Summary: 2 Stars

I ordered these after scouring the many positive reviews.I could tell I liked the styling from the images, and the many positive reviews made it seem that these would be a great buy. I am no chef, but I am a fairly advanced consumer in the kitchen. Unfortunately, I found these knives heavy, cumbersome, and totally dull. The serrated edge on all the knives was a little confusing - I normally have seen serrated edges on just bread knives or steak knives. Add to it that none of the knives fit snugly in the block. These aren't terrible, they just weren't good, in my opinion. They certainly cut okay, but I didn't like the amount of pressure I had to use to slice through even an onion. Unfortunately I used them once, washed them well and packed them up and shipped them back to Amazon. For the price point they are okay, but they certainly aren't a steal. Better luck next time?

Customer Review: A Must-Have Kitchen Basic
Summary: 5 Stars

I was looking for a nice, functional, hopefully attractive, affordable set of kitchen knives, and this set of knives fits the bill perfectly. The knives are very attractive, well-made, extremely sharp, and oh-so-reasonably priced! I'm no chef, I just need the right knife to do the particular job I need to do at the moment. The stainless steel in the black block coordinates beautifully with my other black and stainless steel appliances, plus the knives and scissors perform the jobs they were designed to do. Don't know what to say about other reviewers' problems; all I know is that this set of knives has performed to spec for me. I noticed that the matching carving set is available here at Amazon, and I'm going for that set next. This set was very-well packed, and arrived in excellent condition and ahead of schedule. Highly recommend.

Customer Review: great knives at a great price
Summary: 5 Stars

I needed an updgrade to my knives, as I have had a set of "Super Chef" knives I received as a housewarming gift for like 12 years, and they were way past their prime. Anyway, these knives are great for me, as I'm just an average cook. They are sharp and much heavier than my old cheap knife set. Plus, these didn't cost too much ($39.99).
I have noticed that rust can start to form on the knives, as was mentioned in some other reviews, if they sit with a spot of water on them or something, so I do try to wash them and dry them as soon as I am finished with them.
Plus I love the stainless steel finish with black, which matches my kitchen. I would recommend these to anyone needing an updgrade from crappy knives, but I would guess that these would probably not be as good as some professional chef's knife set.

Customer Review: Excellent For The Price
Summary: 5 Stars

I was in the market for a matching set of knives for light kitchen use, and I didn't want to spend a fortune, so I started looking through the reviews to see what I could find. This Ginsu set seemed to please a lot of folks, and it was very reasonably priced, so I ordered it.

The knives are a nice weight, and boy, are they sharp! The blades' edges are scalloped, so I don't know how one would be able to sharpen them, but the manufacturer claims that the knives should never need it. I am going to wash these by hand, since I now understand that knives should never go in the dishwasher. The block holding the set was a little stinky when I first unpacked it, but the smell quickly dispersed.

If you're like me, and you just want a utilitarian set that looks nice at a reasonable price, check this out!

Customer Review: So far, so good
Summary: 4 Stars

It's only been a few weeks since we are using the knifes, but they work well given the low cost. Based on the other reviews mentioning rust, we are trying to be careful not to leave the knives in a wet sink. We simply wash them and drip dry or wipe dry after each use - the same way you should treat any quality knife. So far, so good. For the price, I am very pleased.

My mom has the same set which i purchased about a year ago and hers have held up very well also. She also avoids leaving them wet for long periods and does not run them through the dish washer.

The kitchen shears are a little on the cheap side in terms of construction. I wouldn't try them on a bone as they look as though the blades would come apart. That is my only reason not giving this item 5 stars.
