Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Ginsu 14-Piece Stainless Steel Knife Block Set, with Black BlockCustomer Review: Pretty happy w/ my purchase Summary: 4 Stars
I wanted stainless steel knives and handles and a black knife block to keep them in. I wanted stainless steel handles b/c it would be easier to clean than my current set that was rusting and a pain to clean. So I was very happy when I came upon this set and that it was decently priced (IMO) for a set of knives, b/c I've seen knife sets be over $1000!
I've already used these knives and they work great! They are also beyond easy to clean which makes it even better. I had to peel potatoes the other day and I resorted to using the knife I was going to use to cut the potatoes b/c the peeler I had just bought was being extremely difficult, so the knives ended up being a bigger blessing in disguise than I originally thought. I used the small knife so I felt safe peeling w/ it (I've never peeled anything w/ a knife before, always a peeler). They slice through everything I've thrown at them w/ ease and comfort. The thick handles are comfortable to hold and don't cramp my hand after a long period of cutting and slicing. I'm very thrilled w/ this purchase!
Customer Review: Review of this knifeset Summary: 3 Stars
I just bought and received a set of Ginsu knives, after seeing all the wonderful reviews.
What surprised me was the whole set is made in China and nowhere in the box or the warranty does it mention the knives are made of 420 steel. All it has is a one sentence description at the top of the box, saying it is Japanese steel but definitely none of the reviews mentioned about "made in China".
In terms of the quality of knifeset, it's heavy on the handle and do look pretty good, even though again I have my doubts about how long the edge will stay sharp since I am still not sure it is made of 420 Stainless steel.
A bit of disappoint is also the fact that I find the joint between the inner layer of plastic and the outer steel cover is a bit rough; that is, if I slid my finger across the backside of handle, I would feel abit of roughness.
Overall, it's probably worth the low cost but I would probably think again buying a Ginsu( because of the misleading advertisement ) unless my actual usage proves me wrong.
Customer Review: Great deal and great price too! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this knife set for my wife for Christmas. I was prepared to spend over $100 for a quality knife set. My wife has been complaining for years about how dull her knives get. Last year I bought her a knife sharpener and that seemed to ease things for a while, but she got tired of sharpening the knives all the time. I read the reviews on this set and was amazed at the comments about the high quality although the price was so cheap. I decided to give it a shot because these are real people leaving these reviews just like me. We have been using these knives for just over a week now and my wife absolutely loves them. She really likes the look/style and they cut really well. They seem to be very balanced in your hand. The metal handles give the knives just the right amount of weight, they are very easy to chop with. They feel like something that would be used in a Chef's kitchen and not your normal discount store purchase, but you get them for the discounted store price. We are already planning to buy a set for my in-laws!
Customer Review: Perfect kitchen tools Summary: 5 Stars
I am so happy with these knives. They are strong sharp and heavy. They cut so well and are so nice looking sitting on my counter. I have had people go right to them and comment. I love to cook and most of what I cook is from scratch. SO I have people over often and these are exactly what I needed to add to my work space. The one thing I always do with knives and will always do is right after use I wash and dry them and repalce them back into there slot. If you ever notice on the cooking shows the chefs always wipe there knives off straight away after use on there apron. I would hate to have mine rust becasue I did not take care of them right. I mean you can always clean them with bar tender cleaner once in a while. Or if rust appears for sure. However I have had these only a month and they are pefect everytime. Take care of your stuff what ever it is and it will take care of you.
Customer Review: LOVE THEM! Summary: 5 Stars
I just got these last night so haven't had the chance to use the full array yet. We did have to slice some meat last eve though (conveniently enough), and the knife sliced through it like a hot knife in butter. Beautiful! I love the look. We have black appliances so I was trying to match, and it looks perfect!
I liked them so much I bought a set of 5 this morning for our office gift exchange...it was the most fought over gift!!
As I get more experieince with them I will update. Until then, I love their weight (just enough without being overly heavy), and the handle feel (thick enough to be comfortable when using), and their look is certainly classic. I was used to using faberwear with the serrated edges but couldn't find them anywhere. After seeing reviews on Amazon I decided to order the Ginsu. GLAD I DID!! Looking forward to many happy years using these.
