Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of George Foreman GRP99 Next Generation Grill with Nonstick Removable Plates

Customer Review: NOT HOT ENOUGH
Summary: 1 Stars

I agree with others. This is a terrible grill! I think it's a DESIGN FLAW rather than a manuf defect, as there's no direct contact with the heating element in the grill and the plates and it is just NOT HOT ENOUGH. I ordered it last yr and thought it was going to be a great improvement over my mini Geo Foreman grill (that I stupidly threw out the same day I received this unit). Well, it took 20min to cook a burger and no grill marks on it, yet the meat inside was well done. It never got hot enough to grill and sizzle. Amazon.com did replace the 1st one I bought last yr... and that one was a slight improvement, but it still took 10-11min to cook a burger, with a few grill marks. ... nothing like the great burgers you could make on the mini $19.99 Geo Foreman grill. I'm ordering a new Foreman grill and it will NOT have removable plates. I'll just buy a larger cumbersome (pain) to clean non-removable plate Foreman grill.

I hope the SALTON people (designers and customer service) read these reviews... it's a DESIGN FLAW rather than a manuf defect.

Customer Review: JUNKY construction, but nice features
Summary: 1 Stars

I purchased my grill at Wal-Mart for $86 w/tax. I used it only four times and it started FALLING APART-literally! The handles on the removable plates DISENTEGRATED, revealing rusty screws and springs-and the plates were only hand washed! The nonstick coating began to rub off around the edges of the plates and the hinges had cracks in them--and I never grilled anything over 1/2 inch thick!

The PROS:I really loved the convenience of the digital, variable time and temperature setting and everything I grilled came out perfect. Having two drip trays was a plus, also. The features and grilling performance were fine.

The CONS: The grill itself is JUNK because it is made of POOR materials with LOUSY workmanship. I am really suprised George Foreman would allow his name on such a piece of junk!I was able to return the grill for a full refund, but I really miss the thing. I came here hoping to find something made better, with the same features. No luck yet. The concept of the grill is fine, but it just isn't worth the expense when it FALLS APART!!

Customer Review: Menu Extender
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband and I received this as a wedding present last year. At the time, we lived about 45 minutes from where we work and never got home before about 7:30pm. This grill suddenly extended the number of quick, but healthy, dinner options I had. Mix up burgers of some kind in the morning or the night before, dinner in 10 minutes, including grill heat time. Same for chicken or pork chops, put in a marinade on the way out the door, instant dinner. (And the pork is not overdone and tough and dry either...) It also makes entertaining in the summer a breeze. We don't have a patio, deck or porch. We love having people over. This makes it so easy to just do up a handfull of dogs or burgers at a time.
Cleanup is easy with the removable plates. My other favorite features are the timer and the temp control. My parents have an old version without the temp control or timer and it makes cooking a bit of a guessing game. Storage is a bit of an issue, but since I use it so much, it has a permanant home on the corner of the counter near the micro.

Customer Review: George Foreman Grill-removable grill plates
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my grill. I have used it about 15 times so far. I was concerned about other reviews I had read. Some said the grill plate coating peeled off, but I read the instructions and it said NOT to use spray oils, such as "PAM", because this could cause the coating to come off. I believe this may be the cause on the other reviews. The grills are very easily to clean since they come off and can be cleaned in the sink. I have cooked lamb chops, steak, chicken, salmon. I did find that when cooking steaks, they cook better when the bone is removed. My husband has used it for chicken and grilled cheese. Its so easy, even he can do it. I still haven't got the timing down for my very rare steak. I tend to leave it on too long. But I am getting better. I did a lot of research before I chose this grill. I like the slant on the grill for the release of fats, it keeps from splattering. And mostly, I like the removable grill plates. I had purchased a grill with permanent plates and used it once, tried to clean it, and returned it back to the store.

Customer Review: Which is more important... cooking or cleaning perfection?
Summary: 3 Stars

I bought this product to replace the older model, which I loved. Why? I avoided using the older one because it was such a pain to clean. It cooked everything to perfection, but it was messy and disgusting after dinner was over.
Then, I saw the new model. Eureka! After cooking was done, you could just pop the cooking surfaces off and put them in the dishwasher. Fabulous, right? Not so fast. The thing doesn't cook anywhere near as well as the old one. The back part of the grill heats up well, and gets its job done, but no one told that to the front part of the grill. That part appears to run much cooler, and doesn't do its part.
The result? I am still not using the grill very much, but for different reasons. It's easy to clean, but if you are cooking enough to require using more than half the grill, it's a pain in the neck, requiring moving the food around on the grill to make sure that everything is cooked evenly.
George: It's time for you to go back to the drawing board!
