Customer Review: Not too shabby

I had the champ before this and when the teflon coating began to show signs of coming off I used that as an excuse to get a grill with removable plates. I got this grill because it was the smallest one I could find that had removable plates. But I was happy that it is long enough to grill bacon. With the champ I'd have to cut the bacon strips so they would fit. The person who states that this grill doesn't get hot enough is partly right. The truth is, it does get hot enough but it takes FOREVER to get there. With the champ it heated up right away and minutes later you had your burger patty ready to go. With this grill you can set it from any temperature between 300-450 degrees. Once you pick your temp the number flashes on the screen and keeps flashing until the grill reaches the set tempurature. Assuming that you want to set it for 300 degrees it takes me a whopping 8 minutes of grilling before the grill gets to it's lowest setting of 300 degrees. It takes longer if you pick a higher temperature. So if I want to grill something at 300 degrees for 5 minutes, I'd have to grill for 13 minutes just to get it done. So the champ is definitely cheaper and faster.
The first grill I got had a problem with one of the hinges, which made the top lid uneven. So I had to go through the hassle of returning it. I was sent a new one immediately by Amazon. The new one had no problem with the hinge BUT the deep dish pan did come with a tiny piece of the teflon scraped off. I was afraid if I returned this new foreman grill I'd end up with a replacement that had the hinge all weird just like my first one since I heard other people had received a grill like that too, so I decided to keep the replacement and I'm crossing my fingers to see if George Forman Company will send me a replacement deep dish pan. For safety reasons I have not used the scraped one I got.
I tried making muffins in the muffin pan and it's ok. My toaster oven is much better at baking muffins though because this grill doesn't really allow the muffins to rise. But if you don't have a toaster oven or oven, it's an ok alternative. You can take this camping too and make muffins. Clean up is awesome. The removeable plates clean up nicely in the dishwasher. Hint: If you lightly oil the plates before cooking it cleans up a lot easier in the dishwasher. Otherwise some residue can remain. Also in the back you can see the plastic stand has some openings... Well if you're not careful the oils or batter of whatever you're cooking can overflow and drip out the back into those openings. I think the design fails here because it is virtually impossible to clean anything that goes into those openings in the plastic stand at the back. So if you have the occasional bug in the house, those openings could be their new favorite feeding spot. Overall I'd say this grill is ok. It would be great if it didn't take such a long time to heat up and if you could clean the area just mentioned. I have the waffle plates too and they do a great job of making waffles. Really happy I got that attachment. I'll update this review to let you know if the company replaces my scarred up deep dish pan as I'd really like to give it a try.
