Customer Review: Cooks great...one flaw.

I got this as a christmas present because I was getting my own place again, and was really looking forward to using it. I've cooked hot dogs and bratwurst on it so far, and I really do like it. It cooks thoroughly and quickly. The food tastes great, and it's really easy to clean (I usually wait a while after cooking, then just wipe it off with a wet rag).
The one problem I have with the grill, is that there's no on/off switch. You have to plug it in to start cooking, and unplug it when you're done. I've pretty much gotten to the point where I can unplug it safely...but no matter what I do, whether the lid's open or closed, if I plug the thing in, it sparks. EVERY time. I'm finding that disturbing and it's causing me to not use this otherwise great grill at every opportunity.
Does anyone know if they have a grill of this same brand that has a power switch so you can leave it plugged in?
