Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of George Foreman GR26CB Family Size Plus Grill with Cookbook, White

Customer Review: Not worth the money.
Summary: 2 Stars

This grill was just OK for me ... definitely not worth the money. After using it only 3x, I found that I would rather just broil or charcoal the meat. The first time I used it, I was excited to try T-bone steaks... couldn't wait to see how fast it cooked and thought the grill lines would be cool. Unfortunately, when the lid shut down on the steaks, the bones stopped the lid from closing completely causing them to cook unevenly. They turned out OK... a little rubbery. Not nearly as juicy as charbroiled but I wrote it off as being one of the drawbacks of lean cooking. The 2nd time, I tried chicken tenderloin strips. They were good but after adding the basting solution, (so that they wouldn't be so white), I had a mess to clean up... which brings me to the other reason that I bought the grill in the first place: Convenience and easy cleanup. Turns out that it is much easier to clean something by immersing it in hot soapy water then to try to scrape and wipe. Took much longer and didn't really seem clean.
All in all, I am sorry I bought it - It's taking up too much space in my cupboard. I know a lot of people rave about it but I'm betting that those same people will have it on top of their garage sale pile in a few years.

Customer Review: Worthy of the hype.
Summary: 5 Stars

First off, let me state that I never buy anything that I see on television or any mass-marketed, "must own" product. With my wife being 8 months pregnant, it suddenly became a priority for me to pitch in and take care of some meals. We purchased the George Foreman "Family Size" grill, thinking that I could grill some things up without trudging outside to fire up the gas grill, cooking it, and scraping the grill, etc.

Well, we have now had it one week and thus far I have already prepared: chicken breasts, salmon, cod, hotdogs, hamburgers, grilled cheese sandwiches, potatoes, and even ostrich (the most nutritional red meat there is)! Each of these things were among the best I've ever tasted. The quality of the grilling rivals that of any I've ever achieved on an outdoor grill. Each meal took under 10 minutes (including pre-heating) to cook, and 5 minutes to clean up. I cannot say enough about this product.

I recommend buying at least the family size grill. It's perfect for easily getting multiple items on at the same time. For example, I grilled three burgers and some sliced, red skinned potatoes at the same time. This size seems perfect for 2 or 3 people, despite claims that it can hold enough for 5 or 6 people.

Customer Review: Guys Need This
Summary: 5 Stars

The "George Foreman GR26CB Family Size Plus Grill with Cookbook" is not just for men, of course, but we men need this grill.

The game is on, and your buddy just said he was coming over. Oh, and he mentioned two of his buddies are coming with him. What will you do during half-time?

Grill burgers. That's what you should do. But you have no charcoal. This is where Foreman's cool grill comes in. You do not need charcoal, and it cooks quickly. And less fat. That means you can eat more burgers! Besides burgers, we use ours to cook grilled cheese sandwiches.

Seriously, this is a handy, pull it out when you need it kind of device.

You can't use this grill for chicken or Cornish hens. You need a Webber or other rounded-top type grill. This grill presses down on top of the meat, cooking it on both sides simultaneously. It lacks the standard grill smoked taste, but you can manage that with some liquid smoke found in the spice rack at the grocery store.

You get a cookbook too, but the real value here is the grill.

I fully recommend the "George Foreman GR26CB Family Size Plus Grill with Cookbook."

Customer Review: So long, but no thanks for the fish
Summary: 5 Stars

You know how you go through an infatuation period with a new kitchen appliance? Then it gets put in a storeroom and falls out of your life like an old boyfriend or girlfriend. It happened to our pastamaker, our ice-cream maker, but I don't think it's going to happen to our George Foreman grill. I really think it's going to occupy prime kitchen counterspace forever.

The main reason is that it is extremely versatile. It grills meats easily; everything comes out firm on the outside and juicy on the inside. But it is also a dandy sandwich-maker - it makes the world's best grilled cheese; the cheese and bread undergo a kind of spiritual transformation and become as one.

Do yourself a favor buy a really good loaf of bread, spread it with a little olive oil, and make the world's best toast.

But - although it does an excellent job with fish fillets, you use it for this purpose at your peril. Even though I scrubbed it daily it took five or more days before my toast did not taste like Charlie the Tuna. So no fish would be my advice (or, get the newer Foreman grill with the removable grill plates, which presumably could be de-salmonized in the dishwasher).

Customer Review: Bacon
Summary: 5 Stars

If you're like me you love eating bacon, but think cooking it's a chore!

I mean, when cooking bacon in a frying pan the grease will spatter and likely get on your hands. Lets face it: it hurts when you're burnt by the ones you love!

Then there's that precooked crap. It's so limp and tasteless, so I know it's not fooling any true bacon connoisseurs. It's like bacon that's been dropped it in the fishtank and scooped out a few days later.

I found an excellent solution in an unexpected place: the George Foreman Grill. This thing is reknown for dejuicing a tasty, fattening piece of meat to the point where it more resembles a crusty, dried-out log, but really does wonders for bacon! I'm using the "family size" that handles 4-6 slices at a time (depending on the brand). I simply wait for it to preheat, toss in the bacon, set it for seven minutes, and BAM it comes out perfect every time! You know -- crispy, but not TOO crispy. And a lot of the extra grease convenienty pours into that little container so you can later use it as a dipping sauce or mix it in with your coffee!

Needless to say, life has never been better!
