Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of George Foreman GR26CB Family Size Plus Grill with Cookbook, WhiteCustomer Review: Contact Grill Concept is great. GFGrill is CHEAPLY Designed Summary: 1 Stars
Ive' used this machine for well over a year - The Idea of cooking foods on both sides is a great one. These newish grills are called Contact Grills. Now lets look at the quality of this machine - No thermostat - burns fish and frozen or thicker peices of meat unless you stand there and unplug it every couple of minutes. No temperature control - one heat setting does NOT cook all foods well (DUH ) Royal pain in the neck to clean it would be so much easier if the grilling plates came out and could be taken over to sink and rinsed off - but no you have to wipe and clean intact which makes some surfaces hard to get to. Which brings me to my next point Durablity - after a year and half of MAYBE 3x week use theGF grill non-stick coating is completely shot its is no longer non-stick. I have only wiped it down with papertowels, dishcloths and the little cleaning gizmo. I have T-fal pans that I use more often that are 10 years old and are in better shape and are still no stick! Slopes too much - food rolls off The cooking surface is only 8 x 7 1/2 the actual dimensions are NEVER mentioned on the package!!!" How is this family size? Four UNCOOKED hamburgers will not fit on it, only two of any kind of sandwich will fit on it All in all a poorly designed cheaply made and over priced item. Its amazing that this ever caught on - goes to show you what Name recognition and mechandising can do. If you want a contact grill try another brand like Black and Decker, Delonghi, or Hamilton Beach that have more features removable trays AND are cheaper when compared by the sq ".
Customer Review: Cooking is easy and tasty with George! Summary: 5 Stars
I bought the George Foreman grill as a joke for my husband (it DOES say "Lean Mean Fat-Reducing Grilling Machine" on it), but we used it for three weeks solid after it arrived. The reason? It's EASY, and the food turns out really tasty! This particular model is big enough to cook several portions of meat at a time -- it cooks from the top and bottom all at once to cut your cooking time down to mere minutes! The grill is tilted and comes with a trough so that all excess fat is drained away from your food. Pretty nifty! It's also fairly easy to clean up -- you just wipe down the grill and throw the trough in the dishwasher. We've used the grill for chicken breasts, Boca Burgers, regular burgers, pork chops, steaks, and even bacon strips (it's GREAT for avoiding a bunch of messy bacon grease). It cooks even frozen meat in a relatively short period of time, and it cooks it thoroughly. It's easy to throw something on the grill, sprinkle some seasonings on it (BAM!), and let it cook for a few minutes while you fix the rest of the meal. It is hard to overcook things, and it's fun to have grill-lines on your food. It took me awhile to believe the hype about the George Foreman Grills, but they are easy to use and deliver good results. In fact, this might be a good way to introduce your older children (12 and up) to rudimentary cooking. The George Foreman grill would be great for people who don't have a lot of time to cook & clean, who aren't yet confident cooks or don't have a lot of cooking experience, or for anyone who wants an easy way to make a tasty meal!
Customer Review: Disappointing Summary: 1 Stars
I had wanted one of these grills for quite some time and received one as a birthday present recently. Although I think the concept is fantastic, this version of the George Foreman grills is quite lacking. It is simple and easy to use, but I have the below comments for your consideration before you purchase one, which are also the reasons I submit a low score.
1. You cannot adjust the heating temperature on this model. It is one heat only, and more delicate meats and foods burn easily before cooking through.
2. You cannot turn it off manually. Before you can unplug it, you have to wait for the unit to turn itself off when it reaches its top heat temperature. Otherwise, it sparks at the plug if the light is lit, indicating that it is on and heating. Therefore, if you want to turn off the unit to keep the food warm, you cannot. The directions say, "CAUTION: To avoid any sparks at the outlet while disconnecting the plug, make sure the `Power Light' is off (not illuminated) before disconnecting the plug from the outlet." Scary!
3. It is a mess to clean up.
Therefore, when considering these grills, I suggest that you consider a model that you can:
1. Adjust the heat
2. Turn it off manually
3. Remove the grilling plates to wash in the dishwasher
My grill is going back to the store. Thank goodness I have a gift receipt. I hope my review is helpful to you in determining which grill is best for you.
Customer Review: Good concept, poor execution Summary: 3 Stars
I purchased this inexpensive grill to replace the defunct T-Fal I sent away for warranty repair (for the record it took almost 3 months to get a replacement from T-Fal).
It is a very inexpensive model, and it performs consistently, but the following flaws make it very hard to recommend:
- The plates are not removable and the manual warns against immersing the grill. This makes cleaning a fairly difficult task.
- The drip collection trays are poorly designed, making it easy to spill fat while replacing them.
- Only one operating temperature: tough break if that's too hot or not hot enough for you!
- The non-stick coating is a very poor performer. Marinades containing sugar, in particular, were extremely difficult to clean (that's where removable plates would have come in handy). The T-Fal's is considerably better.
If you are considering this type of grill and can afford to spend a little more, I would recommend you look into a model with detachable plates and if possible adjustable temperature (there is a newer, slightly more expensive George Foreman model with these features). This model, while inexpensive, has too many shortcomings to be recommended unless you are going for the lowest possible price.
Customer Review: I'M A BELIEVER1 Summary: 5 Stars
WHEN MY BROTHER CAME HOME WITH THE LITTLE GRILL WE ALL SCOFFED AT HIS IMPULSE BUYING---HE'S ALWAYS TRYING SOMETHING NEW IN THE KITCHEN. THAT WAS JUST SEVERAL WEEKS AGO! THE FIRST TIME WE SMELLED THE AROMA OF HIS MOJO (SPANISH COOKING MARINADE) CHICKEN THE SMILE LEFT OUR FACES AND THE PANGS OF HUNGER BEGAN. LAST NITE WE WENT GRILL SHOPPING! FOR A BIGGER ONE! WE DID CHICKEN BREASTS WITH LEMON AND THE MARINADE. CLEAN UP WAS A BREEZE WITH A COUPLE OF WET PAPER TOWELS BUNCHED UP SO YOU DONT GET BURNED. JUST TURN OFF THE GRILL,QUICK WIPE WITH WET TOWELS AND PUT CLEAN WET TOWELS IN BETWEEN THE TOP AND BOTTOM, CLOSE AND FINISH THE QUICK CLEAN UP ALONG WITH THE DISHES AFTER DINNER! MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS THE CLAIM ON THE CARTON THAT YOU CAN DO BURGERS, CHICKEN, ETC. AT THE SAME TIME. IT ONLY HELD THREE BONELESS BREASTS........DO I NEED TO GO GET A BIGGER ONE? ONE MORE TIP....INVEST IN COATED TONGS OR GET THE MADE-FOR-TEFLON UTENSILS---AND DONT FORGET-- IF YOU HAVE PET BIRDS IN YOUR HOME--BE AWARE OF THE DANGER OF TEFLON AT HIGH TEMPERATURES--THIS CAN BE FATAL AND VERY QUICK! ASK YOUR AVIAN VET. YOU DONT WANT TO LOSE YOUR PET.MAKE SURE IT DOESNT OVERHEAT AND THAT YOU HAVE PLENTY OF VENTILATION AND THE BIRD/S IN ANOTHER ROOM. -----BON APETIT
