Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of George Foreman GR20WHT XL Grill

Customer Review: Simply Awesome for the College and Military Single People!
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a bachelors kitchen dream! No mess, no fuss and no dishes!! Just wipe it clean after each use and enjoy a juicy hamburger, steaks cooked to perfection and grilled chicken that's perfect and juicy. Anybody can use the George Foreman Grill! Just plug it in, set your favorite meat on the grill, close it up and cook until it is golden brown! This grill works fast, which is why it is perfect for us single fellas who hate cooking and love a hot meal once in awhile when we're not eating at a friends house where someone else is cooking for us:)

The only flaws I have with this unit: 1) TEMP CONTROLS! Where are they??? There are none to be found and unfortunately this grill doesn't cook fish real well unless you're standing next to the grill at all times to avoid overcooking. 2) ON/OFF SWITCH! Nowhere to be found! To turn off the unit you have to "unplug" an electrically charged unit, meaning that sparks initially fly when turning it off (possible fire starter).

Those are the only flaws I found. I love this thing and every mother looking for a good gift for their son or daughter at college or stationed in the military should not omit this from their son or daughters Christmas list. Don't pass this one up!!

Customer Review: Grilling Without Bugs
Summary: 5 Stars

My husband saw a George Foreman infomercial, thought it looked good and sent me out to find one. I bought model GR20, the original small version, several years ago. Shortly after starting to use "Our George" I gave away my outdoor gas grill! My husband was severely handicapped, and cooking, whether indoor or outdoor, was up to me. Why stand outside over a smoking grill, swatting mosquitos while I cook, when I can get the same result in my air conditioned kitchen?

The small grill would be too small for family cooking, but has been great for two! Simplicity itself -- plug in, heat up, cook! When you're finished, unplug! Cleanup is swift and easy. I originally thought it had to be cleaned while it was still hot, which was very inconvenient, but I have discovered that a couple of wadded up wet paper towels clean it in a jiffy when dinner is over.

My husband passed away earlier this year. Who's going to bake or broil one steak, one chicken breast or one serving of fish? Now "My George" grills for one! No heating the oven, no splattering on the stove top! I put a potato in the microwave to bake while my steak grills, fix a little salad, and in fifteen minutes I have a great, nutritious meal for one!

Customer Review: Durable, will get a lot of use!
Summary: 5 Stars

I have had my George Foreman grill for over five years. The signature and logo have worn off the top, but other than that the grill is in terrific condition, especially considering the wear it gets from me. I use it almost daily, and have never been disappointed. It makes the best tasting bacon I've had, crisp and not greasy - and very difficult to overcook and burn like I frequently do when cooking bacon in a skillet. I can fit about four burgers on here, and they cook evenly and quickly. Chicken breasts are a snap, especially when chopping up for a salad or pasta.

Grilled cheese sandwiches are quick and tasty(add a little precooked bacon, and you've got a terrific, albeit high cholesterol, lunch) and my grandmother likes to make grilled peanut butter and banana sandwiches on it. I often make pork chops with just a little salt and pepper, and they always cook perfectly. Sausages are terrific too.

I think the nicest part for me is that it is very difficult to overcook or burn anything. It also cooks very evenly.

Cleanup is very easy, just wipe it down with a warm dishcloth after it cools and toss the grease collector in the dishwasher.

Customer Review: Tasty Food Made Easy
Summary: 4 Stars

I received the smaller version of the grill as a gift. At first I was skeptical. I am not a good cook, and a dislike most gadgets because they are difficult to clean.

The grill is easy to use, and the food cooks quickly. I tried a couple of the recipes from the enclosed booklet. The marinated grilled chicken was great, and so easy! One warning: You may need to increase the cooking time for chicken, if you buy the extra plump chicken pieces. I wish the booklet had more recipes. The non-stick surface works well. A tip for quick clean-up: After the grill is mostly cool, use the plastic forked spatula to quickly scrape out any residue. The spatula is shaped to fit in between the ridges of the grill surface. The spatula and the drip tray can go in the top rack of a dishwasher.

For any indoor grilling, it helps if your kitchen has a fan that is vented to the outdoors. Unfortunately, our kitchen lacks this. The white outer surface of the grill has gotten partially discolored by greasy smoke fumes.

I recommend the grill. The only regret is that I wish I had the larger size grill.
