Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of George Foreman GGR50B Indoor/Outdoor Grill

Customer Review: Another Satisfied Customer
Summary: 5 Stars

I used this grill at a friend's barbeque and I was so impressed, that later that night I went online and bought one for myself. I recently had people over and while I still fired up my charcoal grill for the chicken and ribs,(for the charcoal flavor) the George Foreman was excellent for quickly cooking burgers and franks. Then, I wiped off the surface, sprayed Pam onto it and grilled eggplant, squash and mushrooms for my family. They loved everything! I have also marinated and grilled steaks which I am unable to do on a regular grill since I like them well done. They usually turn out very tough and dry. With the George Forman indoor/outdoor grill, you can control the temperature, so the meat cooked up just right. I am very pleased with this purchase. And the clean up is very easy. Between courses, I wiped the surface with a paper towel and the non-stick surface...doesn't stick! One thing, though, when cooking a lot of fatty foods, be mindful to dump that grease pan. I forgot and when I moved the grill, the grease spilled all over and out of the side vents. Overall I recommend this grill to anyone. In fact, I'm buying one for my mother.

Customer Review: works great
Summary: 5 Stars

like almost everyone else i bought this because my apartment complex doesn't allow gas or charcoal grills. if they did than i would have dropped alot more money on a gas grill and never would have tried this one. i'm glad that wasn't the case. aside from the grill not having a way to secure the cover when you take it off and the design which doesn't really drain much grease, i love this thing. all in all i got what i needed and for a great sale price of $70. the grill surface is much larger than all the other forman's so it was a no brainer. in no way is this grill meant to be a replacement for a quality gas/charcoal grill. look at the price difference and understand that george forman grills, are what they are (cheaply made but efficient grills). so if you can't use gas/charcoal where you live than this is a good purchase. another option is the weber electric grills which to be honest i didn't buy because i didn't have the money (the grill plus stand will run about $260). they would probably last longer and outperform this one. weber is probably the top grill manufacturer in the the country.

Customer Review: Good for Condos
Summary: 5 Stars

I have always been a grill man; I love grilling everything, but I recently moved into a Condo and Gas/Charcoal grills are not allowed. I had to find a solution so I started browsing the products on Amazon and found this electric "grill". It had good ratings and I read lots of them and made a decision to purchase. Well, here are my pros and cons:

Pros:
Inexpensive (vs cost at Bed Bath & Beyond of $100).
Lightweight
Easy to clean (do not wait overnight though as stains can become stubborn)
Heats up within minutes
Cooks very lean (George forman style. Eliminates most of the grease).
Makes nice "grill marks" on the food. Nice finish
Good for Condos

Cons:
Its just a "skillet" with grooves. It should not be called a "Grill" just because it sort of looks like one.
Food can dry-out very quickly. Make sure the meat is well marinated and follow the (brief) instructions in the manual.

As long as you keep in mind that this is NOT a replacement for a REAL GRILL (GAS OR CHARCOAL), you'll be fine.

Customer Review: Great Grill
Summary: 4 Stars

We've had both charcol and propane grills before we bought this one and we are very pleased with it. It is very easy to use for grilling vegetables as well as for meats. Because of the design, you don't need special holders for vegetables. It cleans up easily. We like the temperature control. It takes a lot of the guess work out.

We have not had a problem with blowing fuses as one person who wrote a review did. We have used it at two locations. One is a 42 year old home with standard wiring and the other is a new lake cabin. Neither had a problem.

The literature says that you should have it on a 20 amp circuit.
Our circuits are 15 amp and we had no trouble. The grill takes up most of the circuit, so you can't have many other things running on it at the same time.

The only thing I don't like is that the cover comes off completely and we need to have a table nearby to set it on when we are adding or taking food off. Wish the top just flipped back.

We are tempted to buy another one for our home in the city. We keep the Foreman at the cabin.

Overall we just love it!

Customer Review: Can't Replace a Real Gas or Charcoal Grill.
Summary: 1 Stars

This "grill" is not good for cooking red meats. The grill cooks with a combination of direct heat from the grill and steam given off by the food you're cooking and captured by the cover. The result is a very juicy and tender piece of meat, but it just doesn't taste right and the texture is also different. Every steak I have cooked taste like a steak you'd get on airplane....yes AIRPLANE FOOD. It's very good for grilling vegetables, OK for seafood, acceptable for chicken and pork, and completely unacceptable for any form of red meat(Beef & Lamb).
I purchased this product because they started cracking down on the use of outdoor grills at the building I live in and I wanted an alternative. Friends had given me mixed reviews on this product, but the reviews I read here at Amazon convinced me.
THIS IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A REAL GRILL. If you absolutely positively have no alternative and you must have some sort of outdoor cooking device, this grill may suffice, but I do not recommend it and I wish I would have never bought it.
