Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Fusionbrands 3-Inch Silicone Poach Pod Egg Poaching Tool, GreenCustomer Review: Fusionbrand Poach Pods Summary: 5 Stars
I'm a first time egg poacher. Tried just doing it in water without anything and it did work, tried it in the microwave with this plastic thing, I got at Wal-Mart, couldn't get the yellow to do as I wanted. These pods are working best for me. I got my time down now and it turns out exactly the same every time. They are easy to use and easy to clean up, even if you forget to oil them first!!! It happens! The best way for me is to bring the water to a boil, put in the pods with the egg in them and wait till I see a white ring form, set timer to five minutes, turn fire down to a simmer, cover with lid. Buzzer goes off. I take them out by hand and dump them in my plate. Perfect every time. I like my yellow runny and the white done. That's the way they come out. Going to have to buy me two more, I like three eggs sometimes!
I recomend these to everyone.
Customer Review: Great Design Summary: 5 Stars
I've had these for a couple of years now and they are great! I was not sure about getting them because of the initial price and because I kind of hate kitchen "gadgets/tools" with only one function. Poached eggs are probably our favorite way to eat eggs so these are something we use frequently and have been well worth the price.
I do always spray a little cooking oil spray into them before use so the eggs come out perfectly. I usually cook them in a sauce pan, not a frying pan as pictured. In the sauce pan (with a lid) the steam is just right to get the tops nice and done without cooking the yolks, you'll probably have to play with the time a bit to get it just right. Depending on the amount of water I usually set a timer for around 4 minutes. To clean I just pop them in the top rack of the dishwasher; will be buying more for sure.
Customer Review: wasted step Summary: 1 Stars
I tried these out to streamline my Sunday brunch services at my restaurant. I thought they might be nice for home, too. I tested them out on a slower day and they failed miserably. The eggs did not cook evenly, as the plastic is a poor conductor (I should have known better) and the overall extended cooking time made the white rubbery and I found a nice soft poach was not as easy as with my preferred method, which is to place the cracked eggs directly in simmering water with an ACID, like vinegar of lemon juice. It only takes a drop and you will literally see the reaction happen in front of your eyes, the albumen will almost immediately begin to form a perfect ovular shape. Then all that is needed to remove the eggs is a slotted spoon. This is by far the best way to achieve a controlled poach in my eyes.
Customer Review: Outstanding Egg Poacher Summary: 5 Stars
Imagine this! Fill a sauce pan with water and set it on a burner until the water boils. Give two quick sprays of Pam (or similar product) into a Poach Pod. Then crack an egg into the Poach Pod and float it in the pan. Cover the pan with its lid so that steam cooks the top of the egg. Set a timer for 5 minutes. Pop some bread in a toaster. Pour a cup of coffee. When the buzzer sounds remove the egg from the Poach Pod and transfer to a bowl. Cover the bowl with the still hot lid while you wash out the Poach Pod. Add a dash of salt and pepper........there you have a perfect breakfast in about 7 minutes!
My daughter ordered several Poach Pods to give to friends as gifts. She took mine home with her when she finished her visit and left for home!!
Customer Review: Great Product - Cheap and functional Summary: 4 Stars
Functionally these poach pods are great. I found that simmering for 5 minutes instead of 7 (as the instructions suggest) works better. You also have to be sure to grease the poach pod before use, but in general it works perfectly. The only reason I didn't give it a full 5 stars is because the design is faulty. They should have engineered these things with 4 sides, 2 sides, or some sort of handle. It is not difficult, but let's just say a tad awkward to remove the pod from hot water when trying to grasp the 3 sided pod. Others have suggested using a spoon to remove the pod, and I think that is a fine idea. They are worth the price.
P.S. - I found these on other sites at much higher prices - this is a good deal cash-wise.
