Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Fusionbrands 3-Inch Silicone Poach Pod Egg Poaching Tool, Green

Customer Review: Perfect Egg Poachers
Summary: 4 Stars

I've tried every kind of egg poachers and these are by far the best in terms of texture and flavor. The design leaves a bit to be desired (thus the 4 stars) as they can tip over easily either on your kitchen counter if you're not careful or in the pan if you're not careful. I run a small B & B and use these all the time with perfect eggs every time. I tried the less expensive ones on Amazon that looked like a better design (little handles, feet on the bottom so they don't tip), but they were a thicker silicone, didn't have the room the poachpods have which is nice if you want to add cheese and/or ham to it and the texture was nowhere near as creamy as they come out with the poachpods.

I don't "float" them in water, as they can tip too easily. I put an inch or two in a pan, so that when they're put into the pan, they actually sit on the bottom without floating. I have a gentle boil with the top on and it's exactly 6 minutes to a perfectly done medium egg, still a bit runny, 5 minutes for a more runny yolk. Of course this varies with different pans, size of egg and type of burner you're using, so you just have to experiment. I set time for 3 minutes, then at 3 minutes put in some shredded prosciutto and cheese, then cover for another 3 minutes, and then run a little silicone spatula or small knife around the edge and slip them out onto toast. Their consistency is wonderful.

I've also used these to make little mini savory bread puddings (chop up 1 piece of stale bread into cubes, toss with 2 well beaten eggs, some chopped ham, cheese, herbs, a touch of half and half or cream, and whatever else you want to add, let sit for at least 1/2 hour, then put them into the poach pods, and poach the way you do the eggs for about 7-9 minutes.

Customer Review: Terrific way to poach eggs!
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been looking for some type of egg poaching pan or device for a long time, particularly one *without* a nonstick coating. After reading the reviews here, I decided to try the Poach Pods and I'm very pleased. I've used them three times so far. Though the eggs have been good each time, the third time was the charm that produced perfect results suited to my personal taste. I rubbed some olive oil inside the pods and used a large sauce pan (instead of a saute-type pan) with lid. That way, more water can be added to the pan allowing the pods to float better, and there is more "head room" between the water level and the pan lid so the steam circulates well. I like my poached eggs with a thoroughly cooked white and a soft yolk. Six minutes was the perfect cooking time. I removed the pods from the water with a large slotted spoon and placed them on a paper towel on the counter. Rather than trying to flip the hot eggs out of the pods, I used a spoon to gently guide them along, and they slid right out on top of the waiting toast. How nice to end up with the entire egg, as opposed to losing half the white in the water as with the traditional poaching method. Washing these by hand is a quick and effortless task, so putting them in the dishwasher really isn't necessary (in my opinion). And the pan can be swished with a soapy sponge -- no more scrubbing! Poach Pods get two thumbs up from me. Enjoy!!

Customer Review: Outstanding repeatable poached eggs
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought these for a party where I was serving Poached eggs.
Now I have poached eggs once a week with these and serve poached eggs at dinner party on a regular basis.
The poach pods are easy to use with a spray of PAM or rub of oil they make perfect Poached eggs every time.
All you need is a skillet or pot with a cover. Then after about 4 or 5 minute take a peak and see if they look done or not.
The eggs just slide out perfectly. The are good for custards and chocolate melting too. I bought a second set because they were so good.
Since the poached eggs are consistently shaped and very robust (do not easly break apart) one can make the poached eggs in advanced for big parties and then reheat the eggs in boiling water for about 45 seconds. This is great for a brunch or big dinner party.
I am thinking about getting another set.
Clean up is very easy.
Take almost no storage space.
Make good little prep dishes for cooking prep to.
10000% easier than the swirl water let it stop poached egg method.
Very pretty poached eggs too.
If you are looking for a good Breanise Sauce or Hollindaise Sauce see Michael Rauhlman's book Ratio. I like serving Breanise with Toast, poached eggs, apparagus, and very nice sausage.

MUCH MUCH BETTER THAN METAL POACHER Review: soft boiled egg lover- these are GREAT!
Summary: 5 Stars My wife and I enjoy soft boiled eggs. I used to put the eggs out overnight, bring water to boil, boil the eggs for 3.5 minutes and top the eggs in those little egg cups. Problem was, the toppers did not make a large enough hole for a standard spoon. You're supposed to use a smaller spoon, just for this purpose. Great, another single purpose utensil! And the egg shells did not crack open easily nor neatly.

Enter this product. Boil water. Spray pods w/veg oil. Start timer at 5 minutes. Crack open eggs over pods. Cover. Turn down heat to simmer. When timer rings, remove pods with slotted spoon. Run regular spoon, the one you're gonna eat with, around edges of egg in pod. Dump into bowl. Eat.

Later, wash out pod, place upside down in dishwasher.

IOW, follow the directions, and it works perfectly, cleans easily and is far better than the old way of soft boiling eggs.

BTW, I believe the pods are 3 cornered, not 4 cornered, to encourage you to follow the directions and use a slotted spoon, rather than your hands. MUCH safer that way.

SIMPLE product, SIMPLE process. Rarely am I so fully satisfied with a product of any description.

I won't be soft boiling eggs anymore. Might buy more pods, for when we have guests. Or don't run the dishwasher every night.

Customer Review: If you buy these...I have a bridge for you!
Summary: 1 Stars

This is the worst product I have ever used, and reflects the lack of ethics of the distributor on various levels. When I finally saw this product, I was SHOCKED by the amount of time I waited to receive it, AND the ridiculous handling charges. These are two thin litle "skins" and using a standard stationery envelope is actually too big for them. When an egg is cracked into them, for heaven's sake, don't let a draft hit them, or they tip over, and the whole egg goes on the counter and is wasted. Then if you CAN get them into the already steaming pot (per their instructions) without getting a steam burn, you are indeed quick and agile! We won't even talk about getting them out of the pot, then out of the pod "skin"! One of them tipped over while putting the pod in the pot, and when it was said and done...tasted better than the one in the pod, which gave the food a weird taste. Used 6 eggs total to give the product a fair shake! (Got one fair from it!)

Above all, the plain attempt to deceive by the distributor, was also clearly evidenced by the shipping and handling fee> A small envelope, and they can be RETURNED for one standard stamp! Don't be fooled. I will never go to this distribulote again due to their obvious lack of integrity! I will also write Amazon, because this crap also affects their name.
