Customer Review: Good for kitchen knives

This item gets knives sharp and is very easy to use. Now, it cannot be compared to honing knives with stones. It does not put a honed polished edge on a knife, so don't expect that. You can though, use a nice 6000 grit stone after this to polish the edge if you like.
I use this for kitchen knives, which I think it works excellently. I don't need a polished razor sharp edge on my kitchen knives. What I don't use this for is my hiking/camping knives. For those I use a 1000/6000 grit Japanese whetstone combo for. That will give the knives a polished razor sharp edge.
Polishing with stones takes a long time, so if you use your kitchen knives frequently and want a simple and fast solution for sharpening, get this. It leaves a somewhat rough, but very sharp edge. If you're fussy and want a razor sharp polished edge, go to a professional or invest some time and money in some quality stones.
The case is somewhat flimsy, though mine hasn't broken yet. Honestly it won't bother me if it does break, I don't travel with it. It makes an annoying grinding noise, so if you're sensitive to that, skip it. I am not and actually expected it, after all, it is a sharpener.
