Customer Review: It was ok while it lasted

My husband and I were excited to finally invest in a new chef's knife. Our other cutlery had been "hand-me-downs". All of the reviews I had read were stellar so I felt confident investing the $40+ (three years ago).
Out of the package, it wasn't very sharp. Fortunately, we had invested in an electrical sharpener. The handle is sticky no matter how or what I used to clean it. We had only ever handwashed the knife. After a year of use, the rubber coating on the handle started to chap and split causing particles to get caught b/w the rubber and the hard plastic. The gap b/w the hilt of the blade and the handle collects grime as well because of the overlap of the rubber. Needless to say, I removed the rubber. I don't need to spread that filth to my food.
After three years of daily use, the handle rusted from the blade. Yes, rusted. The blade snapped off, and sailed past my husband's ear while he was trying to slice a piece of cheese.
Save your money and invest in a top quality chef's knife if you intend to use it daily. With knives, you definitely get what you pay for.
