This is BY FAR the best sharpener I've tried and over the years I've tried them all. I see a lot of complaints about the flimsy case. I think it is as strong as it needs to be. And as for the people who broke the case when trying to open it, READ THE DIRECTIONS or watch the video. It's simple to open and simple to use. My only comment is that when I sharpen my big Henckels 5 Star kitchen knife it sounds like somebody running over a cat with a freight train. But after a few quick slides, the noise is over and I have one shrp knife!Customer Review: Perfect for the home kitchen

While this little item would not stand up to the rigors of a professional kitchen it is well suited to the home. If you purchase quality knives and take good care of them then having this sharpener is a great addition to your kitchen. Three measured swipes through this device before each use will guarantee incredible sharpness for your knives. As stated in other reviews, this will not bring abused and unsharpened knives to life again. For that you should really take your knives to a professional to have them evaluated and rehab-ed.Customer Review: Works very well for kitchen knives

This works extremely well for what it is designed. Mind you, it will not put a polished edge on a knife like a 6000 grit stone will, but the average user doesn't need to hone their kitchen knives. I don't use this for my hiking/skinning knives, I use stones to get a razor edge on those. I use this in the kitchen where a polished edge is not as important, and it puts an edge on any knife (not serrated) that will cut through anything you can throw at it. Much faster and easier to use than stones, highly recommended.Customer Review: really works!!

Over the years I have been disappointed with more than one kitchen "gadget", so was a bit leery of this knife sharpener even though it was recommended in a cooking magazine. I had never had much success using a steel and I had knives that desperately needed sharpening, so decided to give this thing a try. It is super easy to use and really sharpens the knives! I even used it on an old knife that had been dull for years and it now cuts beautifully. I am so pleased with this sharpener. Pro: This sharpener is the best I've had, does the job well and is super easy to use. Two swipes of the blade between the "fingers" and my knife slices through practically anything with no effort or snagging.
Con: The side snaps/tabs break off VERY easily. I broke one off the very first time I opened the sharpener. Fortunately, it still works just fine, although it won't close properly.
Even with the cheap case, a great buy at this price that will get lots of use in your kitchen.
