I bought this item and I would recommend it to everyone that comes across it. The only reson why I did not give it 5 stars, (4.5 to be more accurate, but the .5 wasn't given a choice) is because lower-grade cutlery needs the first stage from the furi tech edge, if I had the money I would have gotten the tech edge, definately later when I do have the money.
Please, do not listen to the people who gave this a poor review, they most likely had inferior knifes that were in the last stages of going blunt. As a home gourmet and prior employment in restaurant kitchens, I know firsthand how both standard and diamond steels can and do round off edges, no matter how much training you get.
I am fanatical about sharp knives in the kitchen, and I can get a razor's edge from a diamond "stone", but edges still burr over from use and have to be steeled often, you can feel it as you go along while cutting. It takes a lot of time and energy to get those edges just right. If Furi didn't care about how customers took care of their expensive knives, they wouldn't have created this system. It is foolproof to the average person, and a timesaver to the professional cook/chef, just ask Rachel Ray. Her bubbly persona may be irritating to some, but I respect her when it comes to cooking, she grew up in a restaurant family, and she knows her stuff, she knows what she's doing, and she wouldn't endorse just about anything, she put her name on it, and that carries a lot of weight to me.
Like I said before, I would have given it a 5 star if it would have gotten the inferior knives sharp, but even with my diamond stone, I have trouble with it. The knives were given to me as a Christmas present by someone who really didn't know quality knives. Buy this product, or if you can afford it right now, go for the gusto and get the Furi Tech-Edge, you will not be dissapointed. Those who gave it poor ratings either cannot understand the simple principles of use, or their knives were too far gone or inferior, don't listen to them.
