Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Frieling Polished Stainless French Press, 17-OunceCustomer Review: Frieling 0.5L Coffee Press Summary: 5 Stars
Having tried various other coffee makers and read all I could about what influences the making of a cup of good coffee, I decided to check out the "French" press as this would give control over the type of beans, fineness of the grounds, the water temperature and the time the grounds are in contact with the water. I experimented with variations in these parameters and concluded that; slightly coarse grounds seems best, the time the grounds are left in contact should be around 5 minutes and the water temperature should be somewhat below boiling to reduce bitterness. Once my digital thermometer arrives I should be all set to standardize the method and consistently make coffee I really like.
This Frieling stainless steel press is double walled so the water holds temperature through the contact period (I preheat the press by pouring in hot water and then discard it prior to pouring in the water coffee is to be made with). This press is robustly made and is of all stainless steel construction with no plastics. It is sized just right for 2, or the occasional, 3 cups of coffee.
I think I have found my ultimate coffee machine and its price tag is surprisingly low.
Customer Review: Made in China Summary: 3 Stars
After reading the reviews, and looking over Frieling's website, I figured "okay, I'll pay the premium for this". However, I did note that their website is not clear on where the products are made, instead offering statements like "We have cultivated strategic alliances with select, leading European manufacturers" and "To become an even more comprehensive supplier, Frieling since entered into a strategic alliance with many well know [sic] international partners such as Emsa, Cilio, Durgol, Swissgold, Victorian Baking Ovens, and Sitram." I was expecting a European product at this price and was disappointed when I saw the box clearly state "Made in PRC." The somewhat poor welds (pitted) around the spout are also less than I'd expected at this price. I consider this deliberately misleading and do not care for this marketing practice.
Frieling: If you're proud of your product then you should also be proud enough to be willing to state clearly where it is made on your website.
I'm hoping that the product is as functional as so many have mentioned, particularly since it is a gift for my wife.

Customer Review: Terrible Customer Service Summary: 1 Stars
The bottom piece stripped after less than four months of use. When I called Frieling USA and spoke to their sales manager, she told me it was my fault because we unscrewed the assembly to clean it. She would not replace the piece unless I paid for it which I did because having already paid $50.00, I felt I had no choice. I told her that I have never had this happen with any other french press and if this was a weak part they should at least warn their customers that the assembly is particularly fragile. She reiterated that it was my fault and suggested that this was comparable to breaking the carafe in a glass press.
Their willingness to generate such ill will over a relatively cheap part makes me doubt the reliability of their products. We purchased their press because we were tired of replacing glass presses when they broke. Now we have a stainless steel press which must be babied in the hopes that the piece we just purchased will last more than 4 months.
Customer Review: Should have bought this ten press pots ago! Summary: 5 Stars
I don't know how many press pots I have gone through since I discovered that they are the ONLY way to make a really good cup of home-brewed coffee, but I wish I had found this brand sooner. Not only is it virtually indestructible, but it is also beautiful--imagine yourself drinking coffee with Lotte Lenya in Berlin or with Carla Bruni in Paris. I have never had coffee poured from a press pot as hot (just prewarm the Frieling with hot H2O while you grind your beans). The sreening device performs masterly--unlike some others there's no need to pour the coffee through a tea stainer to catch those escaped grinds. Well worth the price, the 4 cup makes one perfect large American-size mug of hot, never bitter coffee--what a perfect way to start the day! I also purchased the largest Frieling and it is equally as beautiful and lovely to use.
Customer Review: Why so many sizes? (a rhetorical question) Summary: 5 Stars
Frieling French Press
The Frieling can be purchased from Amazon in the following sizes (ounces):
8, 11, 17, 18, 22, 23, 23, 25, 32, 33, and 34.
Why so many sizes?
If you want your beverage HOT, make one cup at a time.
If you use an 8 oz cup, get an 8 oz press. If you use an 8 oz cup and your spouse uses a 12 oz cup, get an 18 oz press, assuming you drink the same hot beverage.
If you have a 16 oz cup and want a second cup, get a 17 oz press, not a 32 oz press. Otherwise the second will not be piping hot.
The 32 oz press worked well until I permanently switched to decaf. Then I bought an 11 oz for my wife, and a 17 oz for myself. Makes a great cup of HOT tea.
