Not many are familiar with the traditional Indian curry stone, but this is a good alternative because the bowl keeps wet ingredients form escaping. I first put a bit of cooking oil in and broke it in to remove any easily disturbed granite dust and then washed it. The smell was unmistakeable as an authentic idli and dosai ingredient, but even if you don't recognize that you'll find this solid and easy to use for pesto, mint paste or just for herbs. And for tree huggers it's like a food processor without electricity. If that weren't enough, it looks GREAT and always elicits questions. I might even put one out in the garden as decorative little birdbath/waterdish. Free shipping put it over the top for me.
