Customer Review: Beware: Washed- out color

In Feb 2007 I ordered from Amazon the Desert Rose Salt & Pepper Set which appeared brighter on the ad than it looks on the current Amazon ad. The 9" bowl I ordered at that time is o.k. However, the Desert Rose Salt and Pepper Set, which had a smooth finish, was sooo pale and washed-out in color and had whitish under streaks showing through that everyone in my family immediately thought it was "defective" -- not even remotly close to the pink on other Desert Rose Salt and Pepper sets we've seen and not even remotely close to the variations of pink in my entire collection of Franciscan Desert Rose dinnerware (8 place settings),teapot,sugar,creamer, butter dish, 9" bowl, and platter. This S&P Set simply doesn't look like it belongs with my other Franciscan pieces purchased at different places (4 pieces from Amazon) at different times. Consequently, I returned the Salt and Pepper Set to Amazon; as directed, I enclosed the original mailing slip on which I marked "defective", added a written explanation of the problem, and printed out a return address label. I was under the impression that Amazon didn't charge for return mailing of "defective" merchandise. However, Amazon charged for the Return Label plus $3.08 for "Promotions" (whatever that is). When I ordered this S&P Set,it was advertised as being from Amazon, "in stock," and qualified as part of an over $25.OO "Free Shipping" order. If you own Franciscan Desert Rose pieces, you will be disappointed in the color quality of this Salt and Pepper Shaker Set, and you will be even more disapponted when you return it and Amazon does't consider it defective. I believe that other companies I've delt with would consider such a color descrepency as "second" or "third" quality. I've had no problems with the very few other returns I've made to Amazon in past years.

Desert Rose the largest selling pattern in the history of American dinnerware, made its debut in later 1941. It has enjoyed the world's longest period of popularity of any dinnerware pattern produced by a single company. The Rose Rugosa, rugged wild rose of poem and song was a natural design selection. The character of the bloom with its simple delicate petals made it adaptable to hand painting. This beautiful handpainted style pattern is still one of America's favorite casual tableware patterns. In 1964 the sixty millionth piece had been produced and Desert Rose is now on display in the historical Smithsonian Museum. First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy chose Franciscan Desert Rose for use in the White House. In Desert Rose, the irregularly scalloped edge of thorny vines creates a believable frame for the fully opened pink roses with their golden centers and soft green leaves. The softness of the design is further enhanced by its cream colored background. All pieces are microwave, freezer and dishwasher safe.
