Thank goodness I only use it once in a while. The first day I tried using it and it didn't work. I call customer service and they had me remove the rubber seal and make sure there wasn't any dirt and placed it back. It finally did work. The product is simple to use and it seal nicely when it works. The seal doesn't always seal properly. I just have to cross my fingers and hope for the best. I do alot of fishing and felt this would help me save fish easier and longer. It did! Worked great for about a month, then started falling apart, not keeping a seal, etc. So, I bought 1 just for "non-fish" thinking that the amount of water/fluid that was being forced into the machine with my fish might have been too much for the product. Same deal. Maybe I'm just too rough, but this particular FoodSaver just didn't last.Customer Review: Foodsaver-Not Money Saver

this is my SECOND Foodsaver Vac- so far, no problems (but i have only sealed about 6 items). The first one lasted for about 20 sealings and then just made noise- a scary noise.- and left me with a handful of bags that couldn't seal. I am being optimistic though, as it is my nature, and i will give it the benefit of the doubt- But I will say, if this one dies- THAT'S IT! This WILL be my last Tilia FOODSAVER VAC.Customer Review: Its great

I love FoodSaver. Food can stay fresh for long time. Although, I have have trouble with FoodSavers to seal and vacuume. Sometimes they just burn the bags and do not seal right. Sometimes they vacuume but do not seal. But, FoodSaver itself is great as long as they work right. And when I had this difficulty with it, amazon.com just exchange it to new one. I have had mine (bought REFURBISHED, no less) for several years, NEVER had any trouble with it. While friends' 200.00 upgraded models bit the dust, mine is doing great.
If you EVER decide that you need to do canisters, you can grab a handheld sealer from Tilia, so this is the perfect starter unit! I have probably saved at least three times what this machine cost me in 2 years!
