Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of FoodSaver Continuous Roll Bag Material, 11 Inch by 16 Feet (Box of 2 Rolls)Customer Review: Do the Math - VERY EXPENSIVE (about $0.50 per use) and not Very Good. Summary: 1 Stars
The endless bag idea is great, if it were economical, and if the bags were of decent enough quality to hold a vacuum.
OUTRAGEOUS COST
At $27 for 18 feet of bags, my cost per 1 foot bag is $1.50. At the very, very best, you can use the bag three times, or $0.50 per use. This is ridiculously expensive. What a gimmick.
PROBLEMS
* The only way you can reuse the bag is if you make a giant bag long enough to hold a broom. Every time you open it, you have to cut it below the seal, and discard the portion above it and toss out a piece of your bag. After two to three uses, you will have a tiny bag that is good for sealing handful of coffee beans, once! True that they are reusable, but with a huge caveat.
* When you seal things with liquid it in, they end up in the machine, and interfere with a proper seal. You will get a leak.
* When you seal powdery substance (ground coffee, corn meal, etc.) they will again interfere with the seal.
* Mystery leaks. Some times they just leak and I cannot figure out how or why. I attribute this to faulty thin bags, which are inferior grade relative to the original ones that came with the machine.
OTHER REVIEWS
The highest rated review in Amazon is from a person who claims to save money by buying 2 rolls every two weeks. THAT IS ABOUT $800-900 PER YEAR, if you add tax and delivery. Not accusing anyone of being an insider or inflating their observations, just poor math. Just how much did they save?
POSITIVES
It stows well in the FoodSaver device.
SUMMARY
Do your homework and look at everything in the market before you fall for the "save" sell point. It may save the food, but it will empty your wallet doing it.
Customer Review: Love my foodsaver Summary: 5 Stars
We received the Food Saver from a family member who had 'upgraded' and we were skeptical. I personally didn't think it would seal well and figured in 6 months, I'd be throwing yet another dust covered gadget into the garage.
We were converts in 2 days. I was packing up the last of the summer peppers for the freezer and froze a back of sliced peppers and got a beautiful tight airless seal. 6 months later I am still using the same bag, I left a large length and cut it, take out what i need and reseal each time. Every time I get a beautiful seal that lasts until I open the pkg whether it's days or months later. I've used this for meats bought in large packages, to vegetables from the garden, to yeast that I rarely use.
The rolls are VERY convenient and (unlike the bags I was given with the FoodSaver) have a nice big spot to write the contents.
I admit, had I not been given the machine, we probably would have never tried it. But now that I have it, I don't know how I lived without it.
OH! and the amount of space in the freezer it saves! Those peppers don't get all mushed up but the airtight seal takes up about 1/3 of the space a regular freezer bag would take! Another benefit!
Goodbye freezer burn, good bye mystery gray freezer-to-trash meat, goodbye running out of room in the freezer every 2 weeks. :)
Customer Review: UPDATE 12/17/2010: New material works perfectly fine (Was: "Not as good as they used to be.") Summary: 5 Stars
UPDATE:
I'm very happy with the last batch of bags I purchased last week (another multipack box). The original plastic thickness and texture pattern are back so I'm giving this product the full five stars it deserves. For more details, please read the comments under this review. Thanks.
My previous review:
FoodSaver bags used to be perfect. I could reuse them many times and sealing was never a problem.
I usually buy a big pack (4 large rolls, two small rolls and 20 or so pre-cut bags) which lasts for about a year. Well, the bags I bought this year are different. They feel different, sort of "crisper" to the touch and are a pain to seal when I want to reuse them because now a wrinkle forms near the middle of the bag as the machine sucks the air out preventing it from sealing correctly, as if the bag had been stretched (except that it hadn't).
Still have bags from last year which seal perfectly when I reuse them.
Just to clarify, when the bags are new (first use) they seal fine. The problem starts when you wash and reuse them. This was never a problem before.
Customer Review: Works great, needs max sealing power Summary: 4 Stars
Howdy,
First a brief bit of background info. I am a sixty year old guy who lives in a small home with a Golden Retriever, in Northern Nevada. I enjoy cooking, the outdoors and reading and I am a custom rifle builder. I have learned over the years that the joy of buying something cheap is soon lost in the pain of disappointment and failure!
I have an older FoodSaver and I find that I need to turn the sealing time/power(?) all of the way to 5 to get a complete seal. Just to make sure that I have a perfect seal I frequently double-seal the bag.
I use these bags for meat butchered from hunting and sous vide cooking; both tasks really stress the functionality and design of these bags and they work great. I have not had a failure since I cranked the sealing control to max!

PS: If you are not using some sort of "FoodSaver" device and have bulk food to store, inventory parts in a hostile environment (salt-water sailing) or cook with sous vide... You Really Need a system that uses these bags!

Customer Review: FoodSaver roll bags Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using FoodSaver products for several years now. I started with the pre made bags so was unsure about the rolls. I finally found the rolls are less expensive and you can roll out any size you need for your food without having to find the premade size bags to fit your items. I bought a new machine that holds those bags and allows you to pull them out, cut them and seal them all in one. I don't know how I ever lived without this product. I have saved more money by buying bulk and packaging up my foods for later. It saves me many trips to town and I am guaranteed my food is fresh when I use them months later.
The two roll box comes in handy when you have a bigger job than expected. I buy a two roll box about every two weeks so I have some on hand for unexpected gifts people bring us like fresh fish, pecans, deer meat, shrimp from the coast. Without our FoodSaver we wouldn't be able to keep our food fresh from one meal to the next! "No one should be without a FoodSaver"
