I had a CATALINA lamp similar to this in 1998 and it failed [due to metal fatigue WHERE THE POST TURNS AT THE DESK MOUNT] 2 times CATALINA replaced it and two times it failed. Their last replacement was a new design that lasted almost a year. After it failed, I designed a new support method that replaced their new design and lasted until 2008.
I bought this lamp on DECEMBER 9, 2009 and have used it as it came from the factory. I can see that there have been enough minor design changes so failures like what I experienced with the CATALINA can't happen.
