Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Fasta Pasta The Microwave Cooker

Customer Review: This product is ok
Summary: 3 Stars

The Fasta Pasta The Microwave Cooker is an ok product. It will boil your pasta and all but I'm not sure if the cooking times for cooking are accurate. I followed the directions to a tee. I measured the pasta, added cold water to the appropriate water level line of the Fasta Pasta Cooker and with the lid off, I cooked the pasta(in this case spaghetti) in the microwave for the time indicated in the instructions for regular spaghetti, which was what I was cooking. I cooked it at the highest level and still the spaghetti did not cook all the way through. I have a 1250W microwave. I don't see why cooking the pasta at the highest level in such a high wattage microwave would be a problem. It turns out that instead of the 13-14 minutes for 2 serving sizes as directed in the instructions, I have to cook the spaghetti for at least 20 minutes. I'm not sure how much of a time saver that is. The real time saver is the cleanup. You don't need a pot or strainer anymore. Everything can be done in this product. Less items to clean up.
All and all this is an alright product. It just doesn't work for me the way it seems to work for others.

Customer Review: Great Little Gadget!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this pasta cooker! It is so nice to be able to cook a few servings of pasta without boiling a big pot of water. I also love that I just put it in the microwave and forget it while it cooks -- no stirring and no worrying about boiling over. And the handy lid that serves as a strainer is a great addition. It is so much more convenient to make pasta now.

The first type of pasta I cooked was noodles. I used the lower amount of time from the range given for the amount of pasta and found that the noodles were a bit overdone. I now subtract a minute or two from the lower amount of time and get perfect pasta everytime. I've made fusilli, fettuccini, and noodles, all with great success. I've also found that the pasta cooker works best when making three or fewer servings. It supposedly makes up to four servings, but when I tried to make four servings, it boiled over a little in the microwave. It wasn't a huge problem, but it doesn't happen at all when making three servings or fewer.

All in all, this item was a great bargain and has been a great addition to my kitchen.

Customer Review: Makes Perfect Pasta Every Time
Summary: 5 Stars

I've bought my fair share of gadgets that don't do what they're supposed to, but this sure isn't one of them. I can't rave enough about how well the Fasta Pasta works.

I've used this about a dozen times or so and the pasta has been done perfectly every time. The times and quantities on the directions sheet are just right for Al Dente. I've tried spaghetti, rigatoni and penne, all came out excellent.

It's so much easier to just wash this little box out than to deal with boiling a big pot of water and then washing it and a colander afterwards.

My only suggestion would be to improve the handling of it once the pasta is cooked, as the water draining out is very hot so you need to be very careful. My first time using it I did get some hot water on my hands. (Same thing happened to my husband the first time he used it.) Maybe it would be better if the lid snapped on to drain instead of laying on top.
For this reason I'd say kids shouldn't handle it.

Aside from a little awkwardness in the handling, it's terrific!

Customer Review: I agree with everyone else
Summary: 5 Stars

I bought a Fasta Pasta to replace a Pasta Express (or was it Pasta Maker - they look the same to me), after I read an article about the possible dangers of plastic food items with a code of 7 on the bottom, and what a difference between the two! It guides me in deciding how much pasta to cook, which save me my usual cooking of far too much spaghetti. It takes a half a minute to do all the setup work, and then cooking a single serving takes a grand total of 10-16 minutes, depending on whether I'm using angel hair, thin, or regular spaghetti. (I don't like al dente, so I've learned to add a few minutes to the suggested times.) It comes right out of the device onto a plate, and washing it afterwards consists of a quick rinse, nothing more, just a few seconds. Unlike the Pasta Express, the spaghetti doesn't get gummy nor does it stick inside the unit, cleaning inside the unit isn't difficult, and it is so simple to use. So my total time spent from deciding that I want spaghetti through washing the thing takes me a total of 11-17 minutes and is simplicity itself.

Customer Review: FAN-FAST-TASTIC!
Summary: 5 Stars

I love this thing! I find that we have pasta and noodles more often due to the speed of cooking them in the microwave. Instead of dirtying my 5qt pot and my strainer...all I have to wash is this!

I find that it cooks the pasta perfectly w/o boiling it over. The design keeps it from boiling over so you will not get these results from just any old plastic oblong container. Also, I don't have to stand over the stove the whole time trying to prevent a boil-over; now, I can just put my pasta in the microwave and go sit down.

So far, I have cooked rigatoni, spaghetti, angel hair pasta and wide noodles---all whole wheat, by the way, and they all came out just right. Draining is a snap.

In the time you could have water on the stove heated to a rolling boil, your pasta is done in the microwave with this.

Another use...I buy bags of cut-up veggies such as carrots, etc. I soak and rinse them in cold water before I store them in my lock & locks and this is perfect for that. Makes draining very easy.
