Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Fasta Pasta The Microwave CookerCustomer Review: Fasta Pasta Convert!! Summary: 5 Stars
I feel like a lemming or cult member, but...The Fasta Pasta is AMAZING!! Not the Pasta Boat (sorry, Kathy Mitchell-of-the-crappyass-cooking-appliance-infomercials-that-I-like-to-watch), the Fasta Pasta! This thing actually works, even when I was positive the pasta was underdone or overdone - the Fasta Pasta proved me wrong. Perfect al dente every time. Even cheap macaroni from Dollar Tree came out just right.
Keep a few simple ingredients on hand at all times and you will rarely spend hard-earned cash on delivery or take out just because you're wicked exhausted.
In the past, when I was too tired to cook properly, I would do one-pot imitation Hamburger Helper-type meals: make a quick sauce, throw in pasta, cook till done. Hey! I know how horrifying it may sound, but just being honest. Most if the time, the pasta overcooked and was gummy. Edible and hot enough to eat, but not too tasty. Fasta Pasta changed that.
Now, I just pop my desired pasta into the container, add the appropriate amount of water and salt, and start the microwave. While the pasta microwaves I use the 10-15 minutes to whip up some kind of sauce. Ding! Add 'em together and in less than 20 minutes I have can have a delicious, healthy meal.
Yeah, theoretically cooking pasta is just boiling water. How hard can that be? How lazy can you be if you don't want to do that? Well, those are the opinions of the ignorant! Get a Fasta Pasta and have your culinary life changed forever. One of BEST things I have ever purchased...seriously.
Customer Review: Works great at the office! Summary: 5 Stars
Simply works great! I prefer "al dente," and use slightly less water than the recommended fill line. Your tastes may vary, so you'll have to adjust on the first few tries.
Originally bought for office, where I only had access only to a microwave and mini-fridge. Pasta box was cheaper than reheated leftovers and faster than fast-food across the street (sometimes didn't get much time scheduled for lunch).
It's so simple, my 5 year old enjoys throwing in ingredients with me, though I wouldn't let him strain the hot water out. Cleanup is easy, and it's top-rack dishwasher safe (yes, I am male, and like the dishwasher over hand-washing in the sink).
PROS:
+Good for office or college dorm. Useful if you don't have a stove-top or pots (ie. at work - I added just olive oil and dried herbs)
+Can focus on spaghetti sauce while Fasta Pasta is cooking.
+Less heat in summer, or less hot water wasted.
+Cleanup is easy. No stirring required. No stuck or burned noodles at bottle of (non-Teflon coated) pot.
CONS:
+Only 1-3 servings per use. Takes about 12-15 minutes depending on amount/type of pasta to cook.
+My Italian-born wife and mother-in-law refuse it, stating "it's just not right to micro-wave pasta." (Although, they could not tell difference in blind-taste-test). My son and I have no complaints and enjoy it. Probably should forgo it, "if you're a purist."
+I paid $14 a year and a half ago, and see the price has dropped now. Oh well!
Customer Review: Who Would Have Thought? Summary: 5 Stars
I can't believe how much I love this product! I was fully skeptical, but decided to give it a try based on the excellent reviews. I live alone and dread lugging out the big pot to cook just one serving of spaghetti (my arthritis doesn't appreciate it either). I am pleased to report that product is as advertised! It absolutely cooks the pasta perfectly every time. You will have to tweak it for your microwave, and for mine, I've discovered that 15-16 minutes is just about right. You don't microwave it with the lid on...the lid is for straining only. I am just amazed. I was just sure I'd have a starchy, glued together mess, but NO! The pasta was completely separated and not at all starchy. No boil-over, no heavy pot to lift & cart to the sink to strain. I love it so much, I ordered one for my son, sister, mom and best friend! I found the measuring gauge on the lid to be accurate for one serving. I'm thrilled that there will be no more pot watching, stirring, boil-overs or stuck together pasta for me. I like being free to concentrate on the sauce or topping(s) while the pasta cooks to perfection in the microwave. This one is a definite winner!
**Update** All my gift recipients are absolutely thrilled with their Fasta Pasta cookers! My mother advises that her microwave takes exactly 13 minutes for perfectly cooked spaghetti, and my sister reports that they have had pasta four times in the last week because she loves using this thing so much!
Customer Review: Works Great! Stains easy but works well Summary: 4 Stars
This product works very well for what it does, the only problem is that it takes a long time. To get some simple Al Dente noodles, in a small quantity, you need to add a lot of water and then microwave it for 10 minutes. If cooking on high, you can have water boiling and the noodles done in less time. What it DOES work great for is if you don't have room on your stove.
It is simple to use (although the instructions are daunting. It's only 3 steps, but with so many options, it's way overcomplicated). If you have young children that are responsible, but still a bit too young to use a stove; they would only need to be careful when emptying the water. The lid fits tight, so as long as you hold the back end when straining order, you don't need to worry much about the noodles falling out or the pieces not staying together since the fit is so good.
This works GREAT for people that want to save money at work. You can buy some pre-made sauce, or make your own; and get a box of noodles all for about $2-4, then you take this to work, put the water and noodles into the Fasta Pasta, and then wait ten minutes. When done, put it onto a plate, put the sauce on it, and if you let it sit another minute the hot noodles will heat up the pre-cooked sauce so that you don't even need to heat it. A very good, and filling lunch for a great price!
Customer Review: Time Saver and Works Great Summary: 5 Stars
This is the first time I've taken the time to write a review for anything I've purchased from Amazon. I live alone and teach music for a living. My schedule gets me out of the door about 1:00 pm and back home between 10-10:30 pm. After suffering a heart attack a few years back I've been doing my best to eat healthier (no processed foods, everything cooked from scratch). I have a great 15 minute pasta sauce recipe from Cook's Illustrated that's fast and tasty but pulling out the big pot, filling it up, waiting for the water to boil, dropping the pasta and waiting for it to finish really meant that this was something I had to prepare in advance and reheat when I got home. Not anymore. I've owned this Fasta-Pasta maker for over 4 months now and I highly recommend it. I measure out the pasta, put in the water, drop in the pasta, put it in the microwave and set it for 15 minutes. While it's cooking away I make my sauce and both are done at the same time. A healthy meal in a short amount of time with minimal clean-up. It absolutely works as advertised. If it disappeared I would immediately purchase another. The first time you use it you may have to adjust the suggested cooking time (the instructions said 12 minutes for one serving - I found 15 minutes is the right time for my microwave). If your are cooking for one or two - buy it, you won't be disappointed.
