I boughtthis miniature pan to warm a bowl of soup, not for melting butter or chocolate;It really is a little too small but will hold a can of condensed soup plus thewater needed to reconstitute thesoup ( about 21 Ozs total) but justbarely and the base is a littletoo small for even the smallest electricelement on my stove. A gas cooktop would be worse and a smooth cooktop probably much better. empty, the pan is handle heavy but filled evenpartially rock steadyFrankly it is so pretty that I'll use it as a bibelot( bric-a brac) rather than a cooking tool. but then maybe I'm just a weird dude . . .:To me, it is a work of visual art!For meltingbutter I'dchoose a ceramic or porcelain creamer inthe microwave instead ( faster/safer)
