Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Farberware 50123 Classic Tiburon 2-1/2-Quart Whistling Stainless-Steel Teakettle

Customer Review: My Perfect Teakettle
Summary: 5 Stars

My household drinks cups of tea daily, so we needed a dependable, easy-to-clean, handsome teakettle. We love our Tiburon! We've owned it for 4 months.

It has kept its nice shine with just dishsoap and water. The teakettle heats water quickly with a pleasant whistle - starts out with some light whistling and gradually progresses to loud (but not shrill) whistle; generally it gives enough warning that I can get it off the heat before it wakes the baby. I like the snap-up whistler on the spout, although I usually open it first before pouring to reduce the stress on what is an oft-used spring (but I'm probably being over-cautious; it doesn't FEEL flimsy).

Compared to other teakettles we've owned, this one is the best!

Customer Review: Extremely Poor Sprout Design
Summary: 1 Stars

I've only had this kettle a month or two. The plastic used in the sprout cover has already melted at the bottom edge more than once. After the first time, I was very careful about turning up the gas, but even using only medium heat this has happened! Today I found a long drip of plastic off the edge after heating water, so I think this kettle isn't going to last much longer. I've always been very happy with Faberware products, regarding them as lifetime purchases. Not this one.

Considering how good the previous reviews are, I suspect something has changed in how they make this kettle.

Update: plastic handle cracked completely through in less than three years! Shopping for a new kettle and it won't be a Faberware.

Customer Review: Very Very Pleased!
Summary: 5 Stars

This time last year I bought a very expensive, very pretty teakettle as a present to myself. It looked good, but the so-called "harmonic hum" substitute for a whistle was impossible to hear. Never mind that, as it shortly fell off. Because I spent so much on this teakettle, I was reluctant to replace it, even after the enamel chipped off in places, until my patience with the no-whistle part completely expired. Last week, that happened, and I decided I'd have to go back to basics. Well, this Tiburon model isn't basic insofar as cuteness, because it's storybook adorable. And it whistles so loudly that I can hear it calling me to teatime while I'm outside gardening. Very good buy!

Customer Review: Great Classic Kettle
Summary: 5 Stars

Just purchased the Classic Stainless-Steel Tea Kettle and love it. The whistle is loud which I appreciate and the pot heats up much quicker than my old one. An additional benefit is that the handle remains relatively cool which my old kettle did not which meant that I had to use a mit. I would not hesitate to recommend this kettle to anyone and if the need arises I would buy this again either for me or as a gift. It is beautiful and large and holds a great deal more water than I anticipated and covers the gas burner completely so I can put the heat way up. Thank you Amazon for wonderful service and products to buy at really low, competitive pricing. You're the first place I check for my needs.

Customer Review: wonderful kettle
Summary: 5 Stars

I was really attached to my old kettle. So I wasn't sure about ordering one online. I didn't want one that was too big, or too heavy. Reading the comments about this one sold me. First, one of the reviewers suggested that you open the sprout BEFORE you pick up the kettle and pour. This is a must! I can't imagine opening it once you've picked it up. That's the only trick to using this kettle.

One of the reviewers complained about stuff floating inside the kettle. Well, clean it before you use it the first time. The whistle is loud but not jarring. That's particularly important, if like me, you're boiling water to down cups and cups of tea to wash out a nasty head cold.
