Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Farberware 50123 Classic Tiburon 2-1/2-Quart Whistling Stainless-Steel Teakettle

Customer Review: Still a good idea . .
Summary: 4 Stars

I got a set of Farberware cookware as a wedding gift in 1968. Thanks to Barkeeper's Friend, each piece still looks as good as it did when new, and I am still using them all. I've added a few pieces over the years, so I thought this tea kettle would be a good purchase. Well, it got knocked off the stove onto the floor, after 2 years, and the plastic handle broke. Then it fell off a year later and got a dent! So I am now getting ready to buy a new one. I cannot see anything better for the price, so I'll buy another. All in all, I've been happy with it. Mostly I use it to boil water to pour on weeds in the spaces between my pavers on the driveway and patio. Boiling water totally kills weeds and is non-toxic. For tea water I use my Sunbeam Hot Shot, an amazing machine.

Customer Review: decent but w/ defects
Summary: 3 Stars

First of all--it's a teapot: how good or bad could it be? Does water get hot in it when it's placed on a lighted burner? Yes. Does it whistle loudly when the water boils? Yes. But if you really like to boil water--I mean *really* like to boil water--then this teapot has a couple defects.

First, its circular handle goes directly over the spout as you pour, so your hand can get scalded w/ steam if you're not careful. Second, the spout cap is not easy to operate--you have to flip it to the 'open' position before you pour, and you have to be careful that the lever is not too hot.

I'm sure there are better designs out there if you have the time and money. But if you want a decent (and decent-looking) teapot for cheap, this one will do fine.

Customer Review: Inexpensive and inoffensive
Summary: 4 Stars

I've been using this for several months now and am reasonably pleased with the purchase. I wasn't expecting perfection, after all, for a $15 sale item. The kettle is lightweight, the space between the top and the handle is wide and tall, making it easy to use with most faucet/filter attachments, and I like that the lid is completely removable. The kettle heats water extremely quickly in comparison to the Revere copper-bottom I had previously. The only downside is that the handle gets a bit warm when heating. So far, this has not been so hot as to require a pot holder, but I suspect if one were to leave it on high heat boiling for a length of time, it would become extremely hot (I normally remove the kettle from heat the moment the whistle sounds..).

Customer Review: Fine for the money
Summary: 4 Stars

The whistle was very loud the first time it blew, but has since quieted down so that I cannot hear it if I am two rooms away.
The latch which opens the spout is kind of awkward and not instinctive to operate with your index finger if you are holding the pot. The Cover seems superfluous but I don't mind it being there. It actually seems to take longer to heat the water than the smaller Reverewear kettle it replaced. (I would have kept that one except the whistle spout cover broke off.) I think the Revereware kettle copper bottom conducted the heat faster. But it is fine for ten bucks...What the heck. Get one and use it. Mine will probably be around here for many years, until the whistle breaks, whereupon I will go and get a Reverewear kettle.
