Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Farberware 50123 Classic Tiburon 2-1/2-Quart Whistling Stainless-Steel Teakettle

Customer Review: WORKS WELL, SERVES ITS PURPOSE
Summary: 4 Stars

I drink a lot of tea & shopped quite a long time before buying. This one really fits the bill. It's well built, not thin or flimsy and it heats quickly. I really like its large size. I usually fill it about 3/4 full and find that the water stays hot in the kettle for a long time ... no reheating for that 2nd cup 30 minutes later. It's sturdy & the handle is quite ergonomically functional.. sits high which gives the pot good balance when pouring. Like many others, I like the whistle, pleasant & loud enough to hear but not so shrill that you jump out of your skin and race to turn it off. I do love the flip-up spout, easy to use but I must say that closing the spout is a bit awkward but that's minor to me. It has so many positive things, this is definitely a keeper. Farberware always makes good quality products & this is another one.

Customer Review: Glad I chose this one
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been looking for a new teakettle for quite awhile since it seems like a more sophisticated way of making tea (rather than the microwave...which I have been using for awhile now).

I looked at a lot of teakettles in stores and found so many of them impractical or inappropriate. In the end, I ordered this one, and am pleased. It has been used daily for the past couple of weeks with no problems.

The handle seems sturdy, and is a full loop, which I prefer over the short handles on some other models. The whistle is perfect for me...I love to hear when the water is ready and have had teakettles before that never made a peep.

The base is nice, slightly larger than the teakettle itself and the teakettle has a nice look to it. Overall, very impressed with the product and the price.

Customer Review: not sure how long this will last
Summary: 3 Stars

I purchased this teakettle for my mother for Christmas one month ago and so far I haven't been very impressed. There is a spring inserted in the spout which allows room for the whistler to move when steam pours through. This does produce a very loud whistle, however the spring pops off along with the whistle attachment every time the spout is opened for pouring. Another issue is the recent melting of the spout around the edges. The teakettle has never been left on the burner longer than it needs to boil a full pot but already the spout has begun to melt slightly.
I am pleased with how loud the whistle is - it can be heard anywhere in our house when it starts "screaming." It cleans well and holds a lot of water. I am just disappointed with how the heat resistant plastic attachments are already melting.

Customer Review: The Only Tea Kettle You Will Ever Need
Summary: 5 Stars

I purchased this kettle about 8 years ago, and since that time I have purchased a few other tea kettles that I thought were more attractive or because they received rave reviews.I found that not one of them could compare to this one on performance. I have since gotten rid of every single one of them and I have continued to use this one. I have discovered that overall this is the best tea kettle you can buy. Cute shape, nice handle ( doesn't burn your hand ) and a whistle that works the way it should, and sounds the way a tea kettle should. So I have decided finally to my husband's relief that I am done trying out tea kettles. This is the one I like, this is the one that works, and this is the one I will stay with. So if you want a tea kettle that does all it should,I highly recommend this one.

Customer Review: Nice kettle and a bit about the great "whistle" controversy
Summary: 5 Stars

It's simple and to the point. It has an easy to clean lightly 'satin' looking polished surface that's a nice combination of resistant to staining from splashes of scrambled egg, yet glossy enough to be eye-catching. The flared bottom does indeed capture the heat from the burner a bit better than its straight-sided brethren.

Regarding the whistle. Folks, this has the *same* stainless steel whistle capsule as *every* Farberware and Copco (I'm pretty sure they're made by the same manufacturer and simply stamped with different names.) tea kettle. That is to say that with sufficient heat input, this thing is fully capable of deafening you anywhere within 15 feet. If you heat your tea water with a can of Sterno, then sure, the whistle isn't going to make much of a racket.
