Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Fagor 670040240 110-Volt Portable Induction CooktopCustomer Review: Fagor Cooktop--great looking, far better than other portable "hot plates" Summary: 4 Stars
I like the Fagor induction cooktop. It's cleaner and classier looking than most portable hot plates if you want to jazz up a studio/apartment kitchen. Has different settings-timed cooking, warming mode etc. Automatically shuts off if pan is removed for longer than a few seconds-nice safety feature. Cooks fast and energy efficient. That's the upside. It's a little pricey so I only purchased one. Not sure if a 2-burner version is available which would probably be really expensive. I have to plan meals that I can prepare using one "burner" or I use crock pots/rice cooker also. Works ONLY with induction cookware. The way to tell if your cookware is induction type is to see if a magnet sticks to the bottom of the pan. The cooktop will NOT work with glass, or other non-induction cookware. It's also a little noisy---fan and strange electric, zappy sound while it's cooking. Not a show-stopper, just not silent. This could be viewed as a good thing/safety feature--you definitely know when it's turned on.
Customer Review: After just one use, we're returning unit.... Summary: 1 Stars
I just packaged my cook top up to return it to amazon. We used it for the first time last night without much success. First off, aside from the fact it was stuck on the no. 4, (I think this is suppose to be equivalent to medium heat) I got a center burn mark on my 12 year old ALL CLAD stock pot! I've never ever had my ALL CLAD cookware react that way on gas cook tops. It tells me that the cook top has a hot spot! Also, my husband and I are in our 50's and are somewhat healthy, and we both had difficulty turning on the unit. Maybe that was also defective, but you have to push hard on the button to turn it off/on. It didn't have ease of use in my opinion. I think in its favor, design. It has a nice look but didnt work. Not sure yet what we are going to do, I need a unit for acid dyeing yarn in my studio and this fit the bill to also help out my over loaded kitchen on holidays. I see all clad came out with a unit, its a whopping 799.00!
Customer Review: Induction Cooktop Test Summary: 4 Stars
I'm building a new house and have been locked on to a gas/propane cooktop. In my shopping I came across a video of a GE Incuction Cooktop that seemed too good to be true. To test the concept, I purchased this counter top single burner, hot plate style induction unit. This unit does exactly what it should with excellent temp control and relatively easy to use controls. It only suffers from not enough power for the really big boiling pots. It is only powered through a 110V wall plug where the built in units use 220V with goobs more power. Back to the temp control because these induction units have as good or better temp control compared to a gas unit. The unit itself does not heat up except for the heat returned from the pot/pan/wok you are cooking with. As a result, none of the spilled food bakes on or stains the cooktop. I'm putting a built in induction cooktop in my new house as a result of this unit.
Customer Review: Fagor Cooktop - Bad experience Summary: 1 Stars
I do a lot of cooking and I was expecting a good result after reading the other reviews about the Fagor unit on Amazon.
I was very disappointed with the Fagor cooktop. I found the controls to be difficult to use (I had to wet my finger to get them to work) and very slow to react - You need a quick response when adjusting heat, and this just wasn't up to the task.
Also, the unit did not provide a well spread heat source. I was using All-clad stainless steel pans and found that the area heated was roughly 3" across - this lead to a very hot center of my pans and much cooler edges. All Clad pans give very good heat dispersion, and this was the worst I have ever seen them perform.
This cooktop just isn't up to snuff for anyone who wants a solid cooking experience. Frankly, my little Thermos dual-burner propane camping stove is much better than this - and much cheaper.
Customer Review: Great Idea Difficult to turn on Summary: 3 Stars
I bought this basically to maintain at work a Paella warm during a lunch. When I got it, I kept touching it to turn it on and nothing. I was getting very frustrated. The Video is just to sell you new products, so that was no good. Finally a couple days later, I tried again, you have to hit it just right, tap it, if you push, it does nothing. It definitely, isn't like the video I watched. Basically, I doubt I will get much use out of it, because now I am nervous I won't be able to get it on when I need it. Which almost happened with the Paella, after about 10 attempts I got it to go on.
I think I would rather just rely on a hot plate with an on/off button and I know will turn on. Other than that, it seemed like a great product if you can turn it on.
