If you have access to a lot of fruit, an electric ice cream maker (one where you don't need ice or salt) is a super simple way to make frozen sorbets and creamy ices in the middle of the hot summer. Once you get the hang of it, you can mix a batch and have it in the mixer in about 10 minutes, with fresh sorbet or ice cream ready to eat in 30 minutes more. This factory-reconditioned machine was indistinguishable from new. The only problem I have with this Cuisinart machine is that it is very loud. But maybe they are all like that. Another great thing about making your own is you can make it completely organic, and in the case of sorbets, out of spring water if you prefer. For making raspberry sorbet, a Victorio strainer is indespinsible.Customer Review: If you love ice cream, you've got to have one of these

This ice cream maker is quieter and far less hassle than every other ice cream maker I've had or used. No ice, no rock salt, no sloshy mess of heavily salted water that needs to be disposed of. And, if you're freezer's cold enough, you can make ice cream every day.Comes with a handful of recipes and instructions on how to make other recipes work in the machine. Easy to clean (just spray down the cold container and insert with hot water and let dry) and even easier to use. My only complaint is that it's too darned small. Four servings sure go quick. It'd be nice to be able to rip out another batch of ice cream as soon as the first one's done but the cold container is pretty much a one-shot-only until you can re-freeze it.

What a bargain. You'd never know by looking that this thing had been reconditioned. Cosmetics were perfect. The included recipe book is kind of light though. However, Amazon seems to have several books available that can cover that topic. As far as the noise thing goes, well, I wouldn't try setting the romance mood with this thing running. At least not more than once with the same person. The ice cream is great though, and the light grinding/rotating/rumble sound just means turn up the tunes a bit. Or run the dishwasher to drown it out. If you like really firm ice cream you'll want to set your freezer on Warp 7 or above to get the container extra cold. The reconditioned one I got from amazon saved me [money]. Which is usually a good way to buy things and save some [money]. Alas, the one we got was somewhat defective, and did not freeze properly. I called them and they asked us to try it again and make sure we left the insert in the freezer for 2 days and blah blah stuff we had already done. We tried it; it failed again. So I called back and arranged to get it repaired for a...fee, plus I had to pay shipping. The machine works great now, everything it is cracked up to be... But I sort of lost money on the refurbished model dealie. So caveat! And I think I'll buy a krups next time, just on principle (until they screw up too)! ;D and i'll give it 3 instead of 5 stars ^_-Customer Review: The Ice Cream tastes Great!

I received an Amazon.com gift certificate and came across this ice cream maker. I couldn't pass it up because of the price. I've never owned anything "reconditioned" before, so I was a little leary, but I can't tell you how impressed I've been with it. It is super easy to use, the clean up is a sinch and it makes wonderful ice cream (I've made several recipes from the instructions booklet - all great.) The machine is in perfect working order, and there was not one mark or "blemish" on it, it appears to be brand new. We like to make the "simple vanilla ice cream" recipe and then add extras like fresh peaches, crushed butterfinger, oreos, heath, etc... I highly recommend this product!
