I tried using these in the fridge veggie basket just like the instructions say, but it didn't really make much difference there. It prolonged the life of fruits and veggies by maybe a couple of days at best. Was thinking of just chucking it, but then got a patch of berries and I put them in a bowl with a cover on it. The cover was not 100% air tight as it had about 2 tiny holes in it, but more airtight than the fridge basket. (yes I know fridges are airtight, but you open it 10 times a day and air gets trapped in there). I put this baby in the bowl with the stawberries. The life of the berries extended DRAMATICALLY. I put in berries that were on sale because they were already ripe and maybe only had a couple of days life left in them and a whole week later they looked and felt exactly the same as the day I first put them in the bowl. I've done this several times with fruits and I must say I'm very pleased. But for me I must say that it doesn't work nearly as well when I put it in the fridge basket. I just put in in a sealed container with the fruits and that works much better.Customer Review: works ok, not great

I was really looking forward to this product since I have been buying a lot of fresh fruit and it seems to go bad sooo fast. Well the disk I put in the crisper drawer seems to be working ok the fruit stays fresh a little longer, a couple of days not weeks. However the disk I placed in with the lettuce has not worked. After a couple of days the lettuce started turning brown around the edges and getting wilty. (YUCK) So I'm not at all impressed with this product. I read the reviews on it and I thought this would really help me save some money on thrown out fruit and veggie's, but that isn't the case. This definitely works on apples!!!!! I purchased a few apples and received these disks a few days later. It has been almost a MONTH and my apples are as crisp and delicious as the day I bought them - if not fresher!
My lemons seem to be faring well with them as well, and they're almost a 3 weeks to a month old!
My greens (kale, bok choy) did not last any longer than normal...
I wonder if they can be used out of the refrigerator? And, sometimes my crisper bins are full and I have to store other fruits and veggies on refrigerator shelves - I wonder if they would work there, too...?

I bought one as a lark, and because I'm a fool for anything 'new'. Lo and behold, the bloody thing works--and not only works, it saves produce for so long they pay for themselves. Put one in those boxes of lettuce you get from the store and forget to use all of--the lettuce lasted longer than marked on the lid, by weeks. So truly, try one at least. Take a permanent marker and mark it when opened with date, it will save you money and today--produce is costly enough that I need to take extra care.Customer Review: Amazing idea and product!

Really work great! - they absorb ethylene, the hormone produced by plants as they ripen. Produce stays amazingly fresh. After buying these regularly for years in US military commissaries overseas, I couldn't believe none of our local grocery stores carried them. But Amazon has everything. I'm happy again saving money while romaine stays fresh up to a month (I kid you not!) Well worth the cost. Innovative idea too. Don't waste your money on refrigerator bags - no comparison.
