Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Euro Cuisine Yogurt Maker.

Customer Review: Great yogurt, mine does have a timer
Summary: 5 Stars

I've been using this yogurt maker for about six months now with great results. The steps are: heat milk, cool milk, mix with either yogurt starter OR just some store bought yogurt, set the timer and away you go. You can use whole, skim or low-fat milk. There are instructions included for adding fruit/flavorings; but I'm lazy about it and simply add that stuff after my yogurt is made and avoid the extra steps involved.

Some reviews complained about the lack of a timer--maybe an older product lacked a timer (?) The one I have, purchased in May '06, has a dial/timer you set for the number of hours you need to warm the yogurt (there's no way to miss it). The machine turns off automatically once the time is achieved--so I don't worry about over-warming.

Wonderful product, at least so far!

Customer Review: amazing and simple
Summary: 5 Stars

I love my new yogurt maker! I haven't had a problem with runny yogurt like some reviewers have, but it may be because I used 4 tbsp. of powdered milk and I let it incubate a little bit longer than instructed (on accident). The timer function is not an actual timer but it lets you mark the time when the yogurt will be ready so you don't have to walk around all day saying to yourself "yogurt at 6:00, yogurt at 6:00." It's simple and I've had spectacular results so far. I've also found that using Brown Cow plain yogurt as a starter yields a milder yogurt which is my preference. It's great for people that are lactose intolerant because for some reason, turning milk into yogurt makes it easier to digest. It's a great way to get in my 3 servings of dairy a day!

Customer Review: Fantastic appliance
Summary: 5 Stars

Have to say that this sat in the cupboard for quite a while. I had tried it a few times, the first couple of time I wasn't using the right amount of starter (the packaging confused me) and the whole boiling the milk process took too much time and wasn't worth the hassle. But then I read the instruction booklet a little more and decided to try "European" style. It's not as firm as you might be used to with Dannon or other mass markets, but I like it a lot. The kicker - you don't boil the milk! So now to make yogurt, I pour fresh milk (I usually use nonfat or 2%) directly into the glass containers pour starter into each container and let it sit overnight. Ready to put in the refrigerator in the morning!

Customer Review: Pleased with purchase

This is an excellent product that does what it says - makes yogurt. I highly encourage everybody to make their own yogurt. It tastes good, saves money, and is healthier as you're adding the probiotics, which aid your digestive tract. My only complaint involves the jars that come with the yogurt maker. They are similar to glass baby food jars and are difficult to clean, although at least they're glass and not plastic. I have substituted four 11 ounce glass jars (actually Kettle Almond Butter jars, which are easier to clean and make more ounces per use) for their six smaller 7 ounce baby food jars. And truth be told, most people probably don't mind the provided jars, so the product deserves 5 stars.

Customer Review: An SCD yogurt maker you can build yourself.
Summary: 4 Stars

My wife is starting the Specific Carbohydrate Diet and needed a yogurt maker. The ones I researched all cook too hot, as do hot plates. Instead, I went to WalMart, bought a $2 styrofoam ice chest, an in-line dimmer for $8, a digital thermometer with remote probe for $13, and some Rubber Maid containers. I already had a cheap shop lamp and bulbs. I stuck the light through a hole in the top of the chest, put a 25 watt bulb in it, used the thermometer to check the temperature, and used the in-line dimmer to tweak the wattage down a bit until the temperature settled around 106 degrees. Total cost: $35 including the Rubber Maid containers, a little more for a lamp and bulb.
