Customer Review: More work, but double volume

Who wouldn't want to make double the batch when your going to dirty up a few things anyway? Just buy a second tier and presto!, double the yogurt. Well, maybe not... So far, I have produced two batches with the added tier. I quickly discovered that the top tier did not get as warm as the base layer. Less heat = less incubation. My base layer of yogurt was smooth, thick and lightly sour, but the top tier, although sour, had a soupy consistency. Solution? For the second batch, I covered the whole unit with two heavy kitchen towels which i microwaved for one minute. I would reheat the towels every couple of hours. When I had incubated the base layer my preferred length of time (8 hours), I gently transferred the top tier jars to the base, replacing the dome after removing the top tier rack, and incubated that row an extra 2 hours. There was no discernible difference between the tiers. A one star deduction for requiring extra steps to produce a consistent double batch.
