Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Emson Bacon Wave, Microwave Bacon CookerCustomer Review: Not as easy as it looks Summary: 2 Stars
I ordered the Bacon Wave hoping to be able to make quick Atkins-compliant breakfasts. However, I haven't had much luck and will likely go with a more traditional microwave bacon cooker. First, it's really hard to put the raw bacon in the rack with the skewers. The tray is not long enough to hold most normal-sized cuts of bacon, so you always end up with the ends on each side flopping over the end of the tray. This causes a problem because the ends all cook together, and you have to get a knife to cut them all apart. All in all, it takes only a few minutes more of active involvement in the bacon-cooking process to just fry it up the old fashioned way.
Customer Review: Cheaply manufactured Summary: 3 Stars
This product was manufactured by Emson. The product description did not say so or I wouldn't have purchased it. I have been using the Bacon Wave for years and would have to replace it every 2-3 years because the dishwasher would eventually warp it. This one by Emson was so crappy it didn't even last 6 weeks. It actually warped around the bacon in the microwave. Since I'm stuck with another one, I've reduced power to 80% and actually use the sticks to keep the bacon off of the tray (I never had to bother with the original). I've only used this one twice but it is holding up better than the last one, so far.
Customer Review: Waste of Money=Bacon Wave! Summary: 1 Stars
The Bacon Wave melted the first time we used it--into a glob of plastic and bacon. We weren't really aiming for bacon covered in a nice coating of plastic for breakfast. It all had to be thrown out. Not sure how this product made it to the marketplace--poor quality control or insufficient testing! Who knows! Don't waste your money; we already wasted ours on this defective item. This review didn't allow me to give no stars or minus stars, or I would have. The Bacon Wave was a Bacon Waste!
Customer Review: Not nearly as good as the original Bacon Wave Summary: 1 Stars
I originally bought a Bacon Wave about 10 years ago which received heavy use. Last year, I ended up buying a replacement because the dividers were starting to come off. The replacement Bacon Wave lasted for 3 uses before the plastic melted on the bacon I had cooked -- forcing me to throw out the bacon as well as the Bacon Wave. Whatever material they are using now to make the Bacon Wave is obviously not the same as the original. It sure doesn't seem like a safe product any longer.
Customer Review: What a waste Summary: 1 Stars
At a concept level, it seems clever. But when I put 12 strips of bacon in the device, and ran it in my GE microwave for 9 minutes - less time than suggested in the brief instructions - a half dozen of the supporting tines melted and collapsed, and another 6 started to lean. Most of the bacon strips had small globs of melted white plastic on them as well.
A waste of money, and a potentially dangerous item in the kitchen. I threw it out.
Caveat emptor!
